This song shows off Steven Wilson's ability to write a damn, good "pop" song and still infuse it with elements of psychedelia, prog and other obtuse tonalities.

After Even Less and this song, Stupid Dream goes slightly downhill I think...

It's interesting how Red Hot Chili Peppers and Porcupine Tree can use practically the same riff and still make completely different songs

@noro_ Progressive rock: Progressive rock (also referred to as prog rock or prog) is a subgenre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s as part of a "mostly British attempt to elevate rock music to new levels of artistic credibility."" If you don't think that Piano Lessons doesn't have a new level of artistic and creative credibility, you must be simply deaf, or think that "progressive rock" entails hours of wanking drudgery ala Dream theater or Yes.

Lol agreed thrashmadness. Write a song that's about your piano teacher (at least I think so) and then put in clever undertones of selling out. Well done, SW, you're a genius. This actually has one of my favourite lines: "You don't need much to speak of/No class, no wit, no soul/Forget your own agenda/Get ready to be sold" Absolutely brilliant.

I'm just amazed at how Steven Wilson can take a regular topic and connect it something philosophical. Piano lessons>>selling out. Amazing song btw
