The sexuality of the song is explicit, so obviously both interpretations can coexist (suicide and sex). The association between sex and death isn't exactly something new in psychoanalysis.

You're right, also going by the lyrical theme of the rest of the album it seems the suicide angle is what aligns more with the whole of it and is the real intent of the song. The sexual angle would've been the more plausible one and would've fit better if the song had featured, say, on an album like In Absentia, which was more about serial killers, crime, etc.

Love how the guitars kick in when the chorus starts, the orchestra is beautiful too

About death (suicide) obviously. The drum fill at the very end, resembling a gunshot, compliments it well.

I can't believe people are arguing about this... it's not exactly subtle. He literally says "switch off the future". Great song anyways, as with almost all of his work.

Phenomenal song...atmospheric power littered throughout with dreamy synths and capped off by haunting orchestration. If you are not familiar with Porcupine Tree's music, give this album a listen to and you will be absolutely AMAZED!

the opening line on this is so acid trance, expecting a kick drum to come in at any point

Switch off the future, right now. Lets sleep forever. As Harmonia said, this is clearly about suicide. I just love the way he sings it.

This song isn't about sex. It's about suicide. Let's sleep FOREVER.... Anyways, this is one of my favorite songs of all time. It melts my brain every time I listen to it ... so good. The vocals, the drums, the strings, everything...

Does anyone know if Gavin Harrison deliberately used the same drum pattern over the first verse as John Bonham used on "When the Levee Breaks"? It has to be intentional, yes? The way the drums are miced it seems like it has to be a deliberate homage. // Anyway the one-two punch of "Way out of Here" and "Sleep Together" has to be one of the best endings to any album I've ever heard. The strings in this song are just phenomenal; I'm sure I've said this before.

loptimistic - Felt the same as you, when I first heard it I thought it was okay but then with each listen it became more and more powerful and now it is one of my favorite PT tunes. There are no words to do justice to describing how incredible the keyboards and strings are in this song!
