Putnu Balle was a / band formed in Rīga, Latvia in 2002 by songwriter Mārtiņš Freimanis who's was the leader of Latvian rock band Tumsa. Members of this band where singing in children’s popgroup of Latvian Radio Dzeguzīte.

In year 2005 two members, Valters Frīdenbergs and Kārlis Būmeisters, as Valters & Kaža was taking the part in Eurovision song contest. The slow ballad-like song, The War Is Not Over, finished in 5th place despite having a considerably large lead at some point during the voting.
