Biography

Rachel Maria Cox is an Australian singer-songwriter originally from western Sydney but now based in Newcastle. To date, they have released two EPs - Home (2015) and I Just Have a Lot of Feelings (2016).

The non-binary singer songwriter and their band have spent the last few years building a name for themselves at home and abroad with their unique flavour of ‘emo-pop'. Their debut LP, Untidy Lines, gained critical acclaim from Triple J, Rolling Stone Australia, Australian Guitar Magazine and was The Brag’s Album of the Week. Singles off Untidy lines were equally well received - Emotionally Untidy gained plenty of airplay on Triple J, If I’m Smiling (It’s Because I’m Thinking About Zac Efron) was added to Spotify’s Fresh Finds Playlist, racking up hundreds of thousands of streams and gaining them international attention, and Stronger Lines won the Triple J Unearthed NIDA competition, with the resulting film clip being played on ABC’s Rage.

RMC has been shortlisted for the 2016 Vanda & Young songwriting prize and nominated for the 2017 National Live Music Awards’ Live Pop Act Of The Year, honing their energetic live set at Mountain Sounds Festival, Mardi Gras Fair Day and Cox’s own project Sad Grrrls Festival as well as supporting artists like Camp Cope, Ruby Fields, Alex Lahey and Ali Barter. A proud advocate for Non-binary people in the music industry as well as gender diversity, Rachel Maria Cox is frequently named as an artist to watch, and their live show makes it clear why.
