Biography

In the search for an electronic sound, two teenage friends decided to move away from rock, and in mid-2010 created a project that allowed them to explore hip-hop, soul and house. In an interview with Indie Rocks!, the duo from the capital, formed by Julio Rodríguez and Marco Paul (vocals Sour Soul), also known as Ratbot, commented on the spontaneity of the project.

"We've known each other since high school. We didn't get along very well. At the Sour Soul gigs we started talking and we talked to Javi (Sour Soul guitar) about doing something not so rocky. Marco joined, Javi left, and (Ratbot) started to get a sound," said Julio. According to the musicians, the idea was to make electronic music but with a more organic approach. So it was that after Plastic Beach's departure from Gorillaz, the artists realised the direction they wanted to take. "We didn't want to play in a band format," the producer added.

For his part, Marco Paul confessed that as they were stuck on having well-squared loops and perfect timing, they thought that a drummer would not be the best fit for the project. However, they have Nicolás Detta (Sour Soul drummer) behind some electronic pads during live performances.

The charismatic duo named their project after the analogy of what ratbot represents: a live rat that is controlled by two electrodes. In this way they represent the control that is exercised in global society, and beyond condemning it, Ratbot's ideology is not to feel guilty for being active members of consumerism.
