anyway yeah, the new album is good. definitely their best since their days in the sun. on one listen i haven’t totally made up my mind about the two or three trippier songs, but i look forward to returning to the album and hearing how it all settles

it does feel like more of an early autumn album than a late winter one, though, interesting choice to release it now. i guess for the festival circuit

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to wait for mid September before I start listening to it!

Maybe something's wrong with me but love this amount of negativity under a positive comment

oh man I absolutely love them lol, I had zero hype leading up to The Main Thing but these singles feel like such a return to form to me.

yeah i wonder what exactly you found disconcerting…it’s not for everyone but if you like real estate it sure sounds like more good real estate

anyway does anyone have a lossless vinyl rip of the 2009 self-titled album? i would very much appreciate one

i don't mean any hate or anything, but it's kind of interesting how people basically stopped caring about a whole wave and era of bands at kind of the same exact moment

as different as they are, and at various levels of popularity – i'm thinking real estate, phoenix, dirty projectors, deerhunter, diiv, dozens more – they all kept going but it's like they all just vanished from people's minds one week in like 2015

no doubt there's still a lot of worthwhile music there. i think diiv's best song came out after the hype for them had vanished, and ti amo is probably a top 3 phoenix album for me. which is why i find it all the more interesting that the enthusiasm around these bands just completely cratered the minute spotify and apple music took over

off the top of my head, the one semi-exception is beach fossils, which is also wild and definitely not what anyone would've predicted back then

I feel like Beach Fossils aren't that popular right now? It's weird...a lot of corporate buzz, and a tour with Post Malone, but I don't know a single person that connected with Bunny. Such a flat and lifeless record to me.

that's interesting. maybe the buzzkill just came for them late. or they're too associated with that corny dimes square bullshit now. as for me, i really liked bunny, actually – i'm one of the few people who thinks they peaked on that first lo-fi album, and that their move towards more ambitious songwriting and production actually undercut their biggest strengths (of course, the audience they found in the late '10s on the backs of that music shows that it was a great career move and most people would disagree with me). bunny to me was like the ideal second album they had never made before: it still has the charm of their early sound, even as the songwriting became more robust. i'm not surprised to hear it failed to keep the hype going for them though, especially since it's their first new music in, what, half a decade?

As always, very relaxing music in a new album. But somehow I start crying every time I hear it

Saw them live the other night as the first show of their tour. Was a bit underwhelmed at first tbh. They had the bass so loud it drowned out the rest of the sound. I think they toned it down a bit towards the end, thankfully. Seeing them definitely made me realize how much I like their older stuff--especially everything on Days. It has a nostalgic vibe that I don't think they've really captured since then. Not the best band I've seen live, but still worth seeing for sure.

IMO Atlas is insanely boring. In Mind is comparatively interesting in part due to the new flavour Julian Lynch brings to the band.

Hmm, guess I didn’t realize that my own proper subjective opinion could be so wrong.

Wish Julian Lynch came through a bit stronger on the record, and as usual Alex Bleeker writes the best song!

My opinion on real estate has gone from one of my favourite bands to nice background music
