Mother's Milk is the fourth studio album by American funk rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was released on August 16, 1989. It has sold 2 million copies and certified double-platinum. Mother's Milk peaked at #52 on Billboard Top 200 album chart and it was certified gold by mid-1990 and platinum in 2005.
The album produced three singles: "Knock Me Down", "Higher Ground" and "Taste the Pain".
Though Mother's Milk is quite highly celebrated in the Red Hot Chili Pepper's fanbase, the band members have more than once expressed their mild dislike of the album. With the exception of The Jimi Hendrix Experience cover "Fire", none of Mother's Milk has been played live during the band's recent career.
In 2003, a remastered version of the album was released, including several unheard bonus tracks.
