“Alien” is a single by Sabrina Carpenter, and at the time was her first single since 2017’s “Why”. This time, she connects with UK producer Jonas Blue, in which they wrote the song together one weekend in London.

In the track, Sabrina describes what it’s like to be lost in someone’s feelings and how alienating that can be.

In an interview with Access, Carpenter said:

"'We settled on it as a way to describe when you don’t know how to describe what you’re feeling.'"

"'Jonas and I had already written together once, but this time we found ourselves in London, which is where he’s from, obviously, but not where I’m from. So we initially started just him on piano, which I think for me was initially how I got into the headspace, which is, I think, why the lyrics are more emotional than they are upbeat. It’s like this really confusing love saga that feels like these two people just don’t know how to communicate. So once we got that across, “alien” was the first thing I kind of described the feeling of not knowing what you’re feeling. We all think we know what aliens are, but no one really knows. And we all think we know how people feel but no one really knows if they’re not your own feelings.'"
