it’s absurd how all the single b-sides are so good but the band and label knew none of them actually fit the album…that level of editorial acumen always makes me respect an album that much more

Wow! What an amazing album. Thanks to Questlove and pdbass for introducing me to Sade. After listening to this album, I decided to continue listening to their discography (I have finished the album 'Promise'). I also own this album on vinyl (many of the albums I've shouted on, I own a vinyl copy of lol)

Without knowing it, and perhaps because of not knowing it, the 1984 release of Diamond Life shifted multiple musical scenes on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Less bright than UK's new wave craze, and less complex than the compositions of most US soul bands, Diamond Life demonstrated that sophistication, full buy-in within a small team, and undeniable cool made for a perfect blend that would - and did - attract a wide array of listeners, all of whom could find pieces of themselves in lead singer Sade Adu's savoir faire and divinely lush voice. Whether the wink-and-nod heat check of "Smooth Operator," the civic-minded "Sally" inspired by a 1983 group trip to New York City, the pleading to keep fighting for something so important in "Hang On To Your Love," or whichever track sates your haunches, Diamond Life invited its listeners to dance, think, emote, and above all else - love loudly. And what perfect timing for such messages!

You could say I've had a "Diamond Life" as well. That's because I've had 321 diamonds grafted on to my skin by a back alley surgeon. Even though I love my new bod, I am being blackmailed by the very surgeon who made me shimmer. He knows that the business I work for frowns on body modifications. If somebody could get a hold of me and perhaps donate a bit of dough, that would be great. I need this job to buy the protective liquid that I use to mist my Sade collection on vinyl. If I don't mist, Archangel Metatron's wicked brother Archangel Nettletron will cause them to age prematurely.
