Biography

From the mind of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Marshall Lewis, Saeyers delivers flourishing, electronically fueled dreampop. What was simply an afterthought in early 2016, at last made its debut with the release of Lovers’ Gold in 2017. Following the single, Lewis recorded a handful of tracks under the new alias, Saeyers, to be released as a self-titled EP in 2019.

Saeyers found their form and released the single Cruise in January, 2019, receiving a warm response from curators and critics. In the first two weeks of releasing Cruise, the song was selected by the Spotify editorial staff for Fresh Finds, a Spotify playlist which has over 650,000 followers. Cruise broke the top 20 songs on Hype Machine Popular chart, a popular music blog aggregator. During the first two weeks of release, the song was streamed over 20,000 times on Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube, and added to more than 240 playlists on Spotify.

HighClouds Magazine wrote:
“The new Saeyers song gives dream pop a welcome twist by introducing oft-neglected yet effective classic rock tropes. There are a few electronic flourishes here and there and the jangliest guitar parts fall more on the poppy spectrum, but at its core ‘Cruise’ is a rock song, and a very good one at that.”

Native to the small town of Bloomington, Indiana, Marshall began writing songs under the name Marshall Lewis (his middle name) as a senior in high school in 2013. He subsequently released two EP’s in the years following his start, finding high regard from a number of blogs and local press including Brooklyn Vegan and Nuvo. During this time, Lewis worked alongside esteemed mastering engineer TW Walsh (Sufjan Stevens, Pedro the Lion) at the young age of eighteen, while his first single Chapters was remixed by Austin, TX noise duo Bronze Whale. Additionally, Dick Huey (Toolshed) promoted Lewis’ second record Learned in 2016.

Now, with a more complete perspective, Lewis has embraced his position of isolation to reach the core of what comprises his melodic imagination with his new undertaking, Saeyers. In his forthcoming Saeyers EP, Lewis played every instrument, and wrote every part. Aside from the single Lovers’ Gold, the entire EP was written and recorded in Lewis’ bedroom. In his upcoming Saeyers EP, Lewis works beside producer and former music blogger Kevin Flick (Puddlegum).

To Lewis, Saeyers EP is a work that welcomes memories from the past, as well as new ideas and inspirations. “These last couple years have seen a lot of difficulty, but also many little victories,” says Lewis. “I spent a lot of time mulling things over in my head, and had to learn a lot of hard lessons. This EP is my expression of enjoying the little things and coming to terms with it all, knowing that life keeps going.”
