Sarah rose to fame in the first series of the British television show Pop Idol. Simon Fuller signed her to RCA Records including a world wide management deal with 19 Entertainment.
But manufactured pop is the antithesis of Sarah’s soulful creative expression.
She became a truly visionary songwriting nomad, collaborating with various artists around the world, experimenting with eclectic styles and sounds, and ultimately developing a rich and unique territory beyond genre. A songwriter with stunning emotive candour that never strays into cliché and a singer confident enough to shun gimmicky vocal effects and allow the purity of her voice to shine. With creative innovation reminiscent of Nitin Sawhney and George Michael, vocally you may catch echoes of Carly Simon, Roberta Flack, LeAnn Rimes, Helen Reddy and even Natalie Imbruglia but there’s no denying the haunting yet mellifluous tones of Sarah Whatmore.
