Steven has always had pop sounds in his other projects, and this is not at all a bad tune. Grow up prog snobs!.

it's fresh and catchy and there's nothing to hate, except that it's not something you might expect from him - but in my book, that's a good thing. i like artists who can still surprise me this far into their career, and this is a JAM. all you prog snobs can keep your heads up your asses, i'll be over here dancing to this.

Why do you make a link between snobbery and people who enjoy prog? Prog has historically torn down barriers between genres and many of its strong proponents, including SW of course, show a strong pop sensibility. Personally I have never met any of these "snobs" and you could easily that in order to enjoy prog, you have to at least have some appreciation for a good range of musical genres.

lol, take a look at the comment section under literally anything he's posted since TTB, except maybe the session where he played voyage 34.

There is a very vocal and dissaproving minority, yes, but if they have been following along both through Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun era PT and the Blackfield records - I doubt their dissatisfaction is caused by this "prog snobbery". Whatever that means.

For me, Pariah is the best song of the album but I really love this one. It's so catchy.

This song is my jam, as in: the jam on the overcooked toast that I would rather eat out of the trash can than having to listen to this song again.

Now why did I put jam on an overcooked toast? That, my friends, is a story for another time.

This makes me thinking of a song like Justin Bieber should make. It's so cheesy and sing-along-ish. WOW!

Strange, considering most of your top Porcupine Tree songs are among their "poppier."

Piano Lessons - good, layered, detailed, interesting pop song. Permanating - dull, uninspired, forgettable, cookie cutter pop song. There's nothing bad on being poppy ...or proggy/experimental/whatever. These are just characteristics of various genres. The problem is Permanating is cheesy artless trash no matter what genre.

Is it? Well, people used to say the same about Perfect Life and Hand Cannot Erase, and where are they now that the album's become one of the most game-changing records ever released? I'm not expecting it to be as good as the previous one, but I see a clear lack of context around it. I bet you'll see it differently once you can listen to the full things. As he's always said: he's good building albums as stories, so we'll see. And if not... Well, nevermind, we still have lots of good albums to enjoy. That's the good thing about music: what is good will always remain the way it is. Peace! :)

"Pianp Lessons" is very poppy. Very good song, but poppy. "Stupid Dream" was accused of being a pop album when it came out. Swings and roundabouts.

I could make a list, but nah... It's just the fact I'm tired of all that people who believes pop music is like a cancer or something.

I'd say let them think whatever they want. If they dismiss a whole genre based on a small sample then it's their loss. In fact there are people who enjoy just one genre. So they're not exactly music fans but more like a genre fans (metalheads, hip-hoppers, dance music fans, etc.). This approach to music is very common among "PROG!!!" fans too. I couldn't wrap my head around that as well but then again it's their loss and it actually doesn't affect me in any way so I'd advise you not to get affected by that as well. We have to accept that some people just don't have extensive taste in music and that's ok.

I totally agree with you, indeed. Maybe I was just too expressive that day! Hahahaha Cheers!
