‘'don’t come back’‘ is the second track on Tate McRae’s debut studio album "i used to think i could fly" which was released on May 27, 2022.

Tate explained in a TikTok what the song is about:

"It honestly just talks about, if you wanna be a mean do not come back into my life."

Tate also used the opening of the song in the credits for the ‘'what would you do?’' music video, released May 20, 2022.

"A lot of my songs on this album are super self-analytical and self-deprecating at times—they’re some of the more intense songs that I’ve ever written. But I wanted the album to start with something lighter, and something that felt kind of empowering. It’s an interpolation of a Nelly song , which is super cool—I’ve never done something like that."
