I enjoy this album, but I don't get the hype as one of the best albums ever. Has the same kind of super-low production feel of The Basement Tapes, but the Basement Tapes are much, much better.

@Craigsly It helps to listen to it in context. Look at all the other albums from 1968, which are largely still Psychedelic or at the least influenced by Psychedelia. Then you have Music from Big Pink, which in addition to having amazing songwriting and performances from all the players, sounds like it's from a completely different time and planet than the contemporary music of The Band's peers. Many, many musicians have spoken of the tremendous impact that Music from Big Pink had on them; Eric Clapton in particular was so stunned by what he heard that he decided to abandon Cream and get to work on roots music, which led to Layla.

Change the tag on The Weight! It doesn't even make any sense. Oh, and this album is incredible.
