Very weird and unique, which is expected given the circumstances of Brian Wilson's life at the time. The second side is far better than the first, and it takes some time to fully appreciate this Album.

An underrated Beach Boys classic. It may be basically a Brian Wilson solo record, but this album is right up there with the best if you give it a chance. My favorite track on the album on "The Night Was So Young".

I think outside of Pet Sounds and SMiLE this is the album most venerated by the hardcores. The more casual listeners don't tend to know of its existence, and those that discover it aren't really in a position to be able to consume its bizarre content. I think it's esoteric success is a combination of dedicated listeners having already analysed the music of Brian Wilson's 65-73 run to such an extent that they're able to cross-reference the compositional aspect of Love You with these masterworks and recognize structurally it's as solid as Today! or Pet Sounds etc. and then the fact that said fans are familiar with the narrative arc of Brian's story meaning they can deeply connect with and embrace Brian's quirks and general sentiment present on Love You and celebrate them as not only a monumental artistic achievement - but a human achievement in general by a truly extraordinary human being 🤷🏻♂️
