I don't think the issue with the ending is that it's too harsh necessarily - I mean it is incongruous with the rest of the song but plenty of great songs have done that succesfully (not a strictly genre-relevant example but Super Furry Animals are the best as this - see No Sympathy for example). The problem for me is that the harsh ending doesn't really go anywhere. There's no dynamics, it just comes in at full force out of nowhere, then more or less loops for two minutes, then fades into the next track. I feel like if you're going to do the unexpected mood shift ending, you've gotta have something more interesting to do with the idea than the end of Where Do I Begin delivers

responding like eight years later lol, but as the guy who called it harsh in particular, I don't disagree with anything you've said here. and the ending _has_ grown on me over those years... slightly.

song of two halves for me... first half is all that matters.... [2] never understood why they they saddled this with such a harsh ending, it's like dying of serotonin syndrome in music form. i guess it's kinda sick in its own right, but i frequently move on at the second half, or just at ~4:49

@alfie_noakes: LMFAO. You score points I think for fancying someone who is not an obvious sex symbol.

Great stuff. Used to fancy Beth Orton, probably not the forum for putting that out there but there you go

song of two halves for me... first half is all that matters.... Labradford mixing into this on Chris Morris' Blue jam is one of the most beautiful things you could ever hear.

Always interesting to hear the Last.fm version of a track you've scrobbled off a CD.
