Not only is this one of few records in my life that I more-or-less fell in love with on the first listen, it was always my favourite Cure record from the outset, and so it remains, after having heard it for the first time in a few years (funnily enough, despite hardcore Cureheads not being huge on this record, Smith himself seemingly leans more towards my thoughts as he's said this is his favourite Cure record in a 2004 Rolling Stone interview). It's dreamy, melancholic, beautiful, and cinematic of a particular balance that no other of their records strikes, and every song is fantastic, simple as. Its lukewarm, middling reception will never cease to utterly confuse me. A masterpiece with high importance for both my personal as well as musical history.

An unambiguous classic. I actually own it on vinyl, thanks to my then-gf, and it's still in the original plastic wrap, unopened and unplayed. Now that I have a functional turntable, I have a heartbreaking choice. It's worth several hundred dollars in that pristine state, and if I open it and play it, its value plummets. I mean, I have it on CD (and the bonus "Coming Up" on Connect the Dots), so it's not like I can't listen to it. But do I potentially sacrifice a good hundred dollars or more just to listen to it on vinyl?

Ha ... Well, yes. Of course I do. I already made that call. But I think I may just wait until I can get a higher quality turntable than my Ion Profile USB.

Some of the best vocal performances from Robert on this album. Growing on me a lot.

For me, this is a real "Disintegration" follow-up. "Watching me fall" and "Maybe someday" are among the best "Cure" titles of all time.

I've always liked this one a lot. Nice to see that many other Cure fans feel the same. I really don't think they've ever released a bad album. Some are of course better than others (and I would rank this one nearer to the top of the pile) but they've been remarkably consistent despite being around so long and going through different phases. "39" is one of my favorite Cure songs.
