honestly I’m usually always more into the psychedelic mysticism stuff but damn were they fucking amazing just dropping it and going this bluesy route holyfuck. this is how I always imagined the stones being when I was a little kid lol. Fucking incredible, morrisons lyrical work here too is probably some of his best. Drops the surrealism for something a little more down to earth. Love this album and may be tied with their self titled as my favourite.

Few bands go out on such a high note, if you're like me and don't count the post-Morrison albums as canon. Interchangeable with their debut as best in the discography.

One of their best albums, one of THE best albums of 1971. John Densmore's drumming on this one is awesome, as is the guitar playing. And as always, Jim Morrison's lyrics and vocals are top notch. It's unfortunate that this would be his last album, but at least he went out on a high note.

Definitely one of their best albums. Probably about tied with the self titled.

Highlight of the album for me is Morrison's awesome imitation of a wah wah-inflected guitar solo on "Cars Hiss by My Window."

Apart from L'America, not much acid rock psychedelic rock. Very blues based and raw sounding compared to the 1st 5 especially on the CKS remake.

Removes what I felt were the "generic" elements of the previous LP and replaces them with that alluring darkness that made The Doors what they were, I think. Compare "Riders on the Storm" or "L.A. Woman" or "L'America" to anything on Morrison Hotel and I believe it'll be obvious that Morrison Hotel was something of a transitional or "safe" effort, whereas this one finds the guys plunging headlong into the blues but bringing along their darkness, humor and mystique. Great record.

I really like this album. While I find it hard to choose a favorite album by The Doors, this occasionally is the one.

There's so much whiskey in his voice that you're not good to drive for like six hours after playing this album. [3]

I also remember buying this cd for the first time when i was 14 in 1990 (dp the math) and staring at the cover art, and then flipping through the booklet at all the pictures of the band, thinking "who are these guys?". Thats the one thing that i'll miss if cds/records become obsolete, the cover art.
