When I was first getting into this band I didn't like this one as much. Not so much the genre shift, but something about Anneke's vocal delivery on here. Then one day on a road trip it magically fell into place. Now I love it unconditionally, irrationally. Songs like Travel, Illuminating, and Probably Built in the Fifties are charged with energy; they soar! Others go deep and dark. All are delivered with emotion that makes me adore Anneke so much.

It's surely their best non-metal album. I bought it on casette in 1998 and immediately fell in love with it. Great Ocean Road, Red Is a Slow Colour, Marooned, Travel, Probably Built In the Fifties and title track are one of the best songs in bands history. Try to listen it at night/on evening in a dark room (preferably being alone at home, just to be sure, that no one will bother you) - it will give you exceptional emotions and experiences.

Parts of this album really reminds me of Kingston Wall's "III - Trilogy". I prefer their earlier gothic doom sound, but this is still very interesting album.

I never understood the hype around this album. It always felt over-ambitious and unconsistent to me. Maybe it's just too alternative and too little metal for my taste.

I absolutely love If_Then_Else and Home is great, too. Just never got into this one for some odd reason.

I can't feel the reality when I listen to this...and that's why I love it so much!

I also bought HTMAP in 1998 and remember being initially very disappointed to it. However, it certainly grows after listening and is - in my humble opinion - the best album by The Gathering, especially as a whole.

Some albums are way to low in the charts cuz of mistagging. It's [album artist=The Gathering]How To Measure A Planet? (disc 1)[/album] * [album artist=The Gathering]How To Measure A Planet (disc 2)[/album] * [album artist=The Gathering]if_then_else[/album] * [album artist=The Gathering]Always...[/album] * [album artist=The Gathering]Sleepy Buildings - A Semi Acoustic Evening[/album] * [album artist=The Gathering]A Noise Severe (disc 1)[/album] * [album artist=The Gathering]A Noise Severe (disc 2)[/album]. Some others might be up for discussion (Accessories, Downfall). But get those others higher up the charts! ;-) namasté

I love this album, one of the best in their carier. But How to measure the planet song has too long pause, it pisses me of when i listen to this album.... Illuminating and travel from this album are their best songs :-). I want illumintaing to play at my funeral, its so beautiful for it.

Yeah, I still say this is my favorite album of all time. It's pretty much undisputed in my book. It's virtually flawless.
