For me, this album plays like an alternate soundtrack to Wild At Heart. California Noir music at its finest 👏🏻

So many people think the drums were unintentionally rigid / electronic sounding, like you think they couldn't afford a fucking drummer? It's a stylistic choice! (An awesome one.)

I find the drum machine very fitting, actually. It doesn't sound as organic as Psychocandy, but it definitely works, for me.

I'm one of those that can't stand the drums, unfortunately. Flat, dull and lifeless, for me. Take it is great and the extra track Drop is one of the best things they've ever done. But otherwise I can't listen to this one.

I quite like it. I don't see how it's regarded as one of, if not their worst. I actually prefer it over Darklands.

The drumming absolutely ruins this album. Sounds like it was done by a bored robot. Great shame.

that heavy drum machine gives the album a peculiar industrial feeling. i appreciate the fact each jamc album has its peculiarity

Actually, this + Honey's Dead = my fave J&MC albums. Sure, I like Psychocandy, but I find it a bit overrated for a few reasons - tis a great album but not a classic for me...

Drum machine can get annoying, synth bass has its naff moments, but, goddamnit, Head On and Blues from a Gun are wicked cool and the rest of the songs aren't anything to sneeze at either.

I love the energy. They really do what they do best. To the max. It may sound like a more powerful, less depressing, parody of Darklands. But it really makes me feel better.

Underrated. General consensus tends to be that this album was their first dud and Honey's Dead was a return to form - I think the critics were an album too early, this album's superb, Honey's Dead was the step down (not a bad album, not a great album) and Stoned & Dethroned was the step up. So NER!!!!!
