That is one of those opinions you pick up just because a bit more than a few people are saying it. TPT probably also hasn't or never clicked for you. Plus you've got close to zilch of prog of any kind in your charts so you can't be taken seriously at all on this and many other pages.

Actually there was nothing to settle. But if you think you helped, then go ahead and have some pineapples

Best to ask Bruce Soord. The pineapples in question were his ig, because he was the founder obviously. Or maybe he is the thief..?

Maybe cause they seem like PT played with hand brake at some times. New album is very good though.

Porcupine Tree was always a natural and well balanced composition of emotion and meticulous songwriting. A good portion of his music can appeal to people who like poppy shit, but it can be nerded out too all at the same time. Pineapple Thief is a good band, but tried to be more Coldplay with Porcupine Tree sensibilities than pure PT. They are caught in the middle and frankly thats how the music comes out too.

Steven Wilson in his interviews has said you can't tell people what to do; what you can do is tell them stories or paint pictures and let them draw their own conclusions and interpret the message or intention of the song their own way. That I think is a fair and thoughtful opinion to have and a genuine guideline to follow as a lyricist and takes a lot away from some people's remarks that he or his music is pretentious. I love Porcupine Tree's music obviously; they're one of my favourite bands. I agree too with ClassyMusicSnob's comparison here. I feel Pineapple Thief's music falls a bit short of the threshold that would make their songs stand out, diversified and full of emotions. They have a unique style but I can't feel their music to the same extent that I feel a lot of the other music I listen to.

Loving the new album. Grows on you with each listen.. Classic TPT is still here but with a sprinkling of Radiohead mixed in.

I was initially mildly disappointed with Versions of the Truth, but it is by its own right, very, very good. Production and mix is impeccable. I just fear the fun has gone from TPT, marimba excluded. it's understandable, they're playing to a slightly different audience now, but there are many moments on this album that could go further and the old TPT wouldn't have hesitated to.

I was also originally underwhelmed by the album ("disappointed" is a step too far) because it felt uniformly mellow. I could find a "Tear You Up" in the track mix, and there wasn't a standout epic like "White Mist." But it's definitely an album that rewards repeated listens. Its success isn't as immediately apparent as it was on Magnolia, and I've learned to tease out the greatness in its subtleties.

Hold our Fire is a stellar release. First, Gavin Harrison is phenomenal. Second, TPF is the best band to maintain the classic Porcupine Tree sound. Third, Gavin Harrison is phenomenal. (And yes, I'm still an SW fan.)

Radiohead+Porcupine Tree=Pineapple Thief. Bio sorely needs an update, by the way. They've released a ton of records since 2012, and they now have the fabulous Gavin Harrison behind the drum kit!

At first I thought Dissolution was kinda forgettable album, but listening to it again now I'm falling in love.

The new songs are enjoyable as standalone tracks. However, much to my surprise, Dissolution as a whole had a soporific effect on me. :/
