The Pullovers (stylized in lowercase, not to be confused with Pullovers) is an duo based in Tokyo, Japan. The band was formed in July 2019 and consists of Cettia on vocals and bass, and Riku Sasaki on guitar and backing vocals. Prior to their collaboration in The Pullovers, Cettia had been involved with UK.PROJECT as a singer-songwriter, while Riku had gained experience in various bands such as Cynical Animal Youth and the scented.

Cettia's passion for songwriting began at the age of 15, during a challenging period in her life where she found solace in expressing her emotions through music. Unable to easily communicate her thoughts and feelings to others, music became an outlet for her inner turmoil and frustrations.

Cettia and Riku first crossed paths while attending the same university and connected through a club activity during their early years. Their shared interest in music led to discussions about their musical aspirations during a cherry blossom viewing event. Although Cettia had prior connections with Riku's band and pursued a solo career as a singer-songwriter, they did not immediately collaborate.

After a period of personal reflection, Cettia left her agency and was considering finding a regular job. However, fate intervened, and in April 2019, Cettia and Riku performed a cover of Paramore at a live event for new students. Although Riku's band initially invited Cettia to join them as their new vocalist, she declined due to her preference for a three-piece band. Eventually, circumstances led them to form a new band, initially including a drummer but later evolved into a duo. The name "the pullovers" was chosen by Riku, who wanted a name related to clothing.

Their shared vision for the band focused on longevity and the enjoyment of playing together, rather than pursuing fame. Cettia, harboring unease about the idea of popularity, prioritized creating music that resonated with their own artistic desires while hoping to gain the audience's appreciation along the way.

On September 4, 2019, The Pullovers held their kickoff event titled "Yoru ga Kowakunaku Naru Made" (Until the Night is No Longer Scary) at Shinjuku SAMURAI. During the event, they released a limited edition 3-track single, which promptly sold out.

The Pullovers' music is characterized by scene-setting lyrics akin to short stories, coupled with emotionally rich expressions. They have garnered acclaim for their simple yet alternative-textured band sound.

In December 2019, their song was featured on an omnibus album released by RubyTuesday, a collaborative label between JMS and HOT STAFF.

In February 2021, The Pullovers were chosen as one of the final five bands in the "Good Music Support Plan!!" organized by Studio Penta, receiving support from various live houses.

Their EP "Kimi Nante Iranai Watashi ni Natta" was released in September 2021, showcasing a more diverse sound that includes songs from the early stages of the band's journey.
