it's kind of amazing how jim carrey carries the spiritual weight of the entire album right at the end. i really like some of the songs and none of it's bad, but this outro has more gravitas and feeling than everything that came before it combined – i wish the weeknd had made the album truly worthy of this endpoint

the one weak spot is that "bang a gong, get it on" part that feels totally shoe-horned in so that jim can say the weeknd's name. (it's particularly annoying because it undercuts the symbolism of the entire piece – if this song is the afterlife and the "forever home" that the entire album has been driving towards, what difference does it make that the weeknd ""plays all week long?") takes me out of it every time – but otherwise it's nearly perfect

lastly: i think the reference to prince is bold but totally earned. it really makes me wish the weeknd had shelled out for the rights to some monologue from him instead of pointing a mic at quincy jones, seeing how the latter's ramble is totally irrelevant to the themes of the album =\

thank you :) rereading it now i realize something, the weeknd reference would totally work if jim had said “the week(e)nd *lasts* all week long” because that really does sound like some kind of heaven/afterlife. somehow a little more frustrating because now i realize how close it was to perfection lol but i think i understand the intent better now, that line is more thematically relevant than i first thought

lol nice try – i never look at it. fucking hate it actually. the RYM-fantano axis represents some of today's worst taste (and fishmans can get fucked)
