One of the most fantastic experimental records i've ever heard, i'm in search of something with a similar vibe to this. Probably stuff like Rock in Opposition, Avant Prog and Canterbury Scene may satisfy me.

This album is probably my experimental/avant-garde awakening :) Post-punk has never sounded so otherworldly and icy

This is an amazing album, it sounds amazingly fresh and exciting for being 40 years old. Maybe it's because the feelings of 'we're definitely going to die because of the world around us, let's retreat into music' remain ever relevant now as they were then. Absolutely worth a listen in these times if you're on the fence, just a really timely an excellent piece. I absolutely have fallen hard for it. Thankful for its accessibility now and for finding it.

Christ almighty, this is an astonishing album. One of those ones that just keeps getting better.

Great album. But if this is post-punk then I have no idea what post-punk means.

i'm curious about what caused the spike in listening on the 21st, 7 days ago. the album got 15x the usual scrobbles that day for whatever reason.

Sigh, can somebody fix the linked songs so I don't have to listen to the full album to get Hi Baku Shyo scrobbled :(

I can't believe I waited so long to hear this. Makeshift Swahili and A New Kind of Water are huge stand outs.

This is about as far from "generic post-punk" as it gets, as you've now realized. There's some influence from Krautrock and wacked-out Dub here. I'd say This Heat and The Pop Group were probably the most musically adventurous groups of their time.

Utterly floored! I missed this when I was younger; I heard This Heat lumped in with multitudes of indistinguishable post-punk bands that bored me to tears; these guys had something honest, deservedly abrasive, and intelligent WITHOUT being didactic. I'm really happy to have this album in my life.

1st time listening to this, and I gotta be honest, it was pretty annoying. I'll be interested to see how this opens up with future listens.
