Biography

Tokyo Sexx Whale are a punk band from Wellington, New Zealand. The kiwis met each other after an eventful night in Tokyo, Japan, that involved a beached sperm whale.

Not much else is known about that night but when everyone got back they immediately started writing and recording their first relase - EP 2016. After a mixed reception, the band came to the conclusion that Wellington sucked and they moved halfway across - literally - to try their luck someplace else: Portugal. After playing in Caldas Late Night, the band were never seen again, only popping out ocasionally on social media, claiming they we're working on new music.

After much speculation and mystery, Tokyo Sex Whale shared a cover of "We Are Ninja" by Frank's Chickens on Youtube, along with an announcement for "Spiritual Quest for the South Island", their next work.

Radio silence followed until early 2021, were the band announced they were finishing up 7 new songs, to be released in the following months through the portuguese label, Vaga.

There's been much controversy on what the identity of the band members really is: some claim the lineup as been everchanging from the beggining and others are sure the band is completely comprised of prison convicts. There's even a small group of dedicated fans who are sure that the band doesn't even exist and the music is entirely made by a lonely attic-dweller.
