Tom Waits for no one. Go to the jazz bar in Rye. The piano singer asks for requests. Shout TOM WAITS! What will follow is a most moving rendition of this track. Wow. I thought it was Tom for real, just for a second, in my cannabis enhanced mind. I love Tom. And piano singers. And Rye. And cannabis.

Brilliant lyrics. There's a lot going on here if you dig deeper that the surface.

Very surprised that this is number 1. I was going to ask if it was in a film, but I see someone already posted that below... two films I never heard of, and an episode of an admittedly wonderful tv show. Still doesn't explain why this is the most played Waits song.

Seriously, why the fuck is this his most played song? It's not even the best song on Closing Time. It barely fucking sounds like Tom Waits.

I love Tom Waits, evidenced by my not being in Hell (though I think Missouri might border it somewhere), but this song is like some horrid emo kid romance.
