Incidentally I saw these guys on the initial tour for this record at the Black Cat in DC and it was a really good show. They had great energy and did covers of Roxy Music's "In Every Dream Home a Heartache" and Mott the Hoople's "Violence," as well as early versions of "Birdsong" and "Mayday" from the next album.

Tomahawk is certainly far from the most experimental thing any of these guys has been involved with, but a lack of experimentation doesn't necessarily mean "bad" if the songwriting is there. I'd say the songwriting (which is mostly by Duane Denison at this early stage of the band, incidentally) is mostly there on this record. Things got better with Mit Gas when the band became more collaborative and branched out a little more. Unfortunately Mit Gas has remained their high point to date, IMO.

"I wish the production was better. Good songs but sounds like shit." Uh...? This is one of the best produced and engineered independent albums I can think of. Check your headphones or your system or something, dude.

This could seriously be one of the best albums ever made. I sent it to my friends and they like didn't even listen to it or follow it but they're big lyric and story guys. That's pretty irritating. Their loss I guess.
