Bono is an ass, alright, but I'm talking about how every time I see someone talking about U2 is the same argument on how The Edge is a faux guitarist and etc. Then again, guitar enthusiasts are insufferable

Do you seriously except a dude, who has been paid half his life to listen to stadiums sing his melodies together, to be humble??? Bono is an ass yes, but he is also BONO, he is not like us, he is a rock star. Rock stars are not meant to be humble.

Kinda off topic, but The Unforgettable Fire is essentially proto-shoegaze in a way.

Just got back from Vegas and seeing U2 at Sphere. Holy crap that was beyond incredible!! These guys are always at the cutting edge when it comes to visuals, so it's no surprise they got the Sphere first!

Should also get some credit for the fact that modern concerts wouldn't be the same without them. Zoo TV changed the game with it's b-stage and large screens. Their concerts are so immersive that they even changed Kanyes career because of it.

I feel like a very peculiar thing happens to this band, they are one of the biggest rock bands in the world, and yet still get to be significantly underrated. my eyes bleed everytime I read someone put them in the same place as coldplay. that screams ignorance. but I guess U2 is one of those bands people will always love to hate, and that will never change. I seriously doubt Radiohead would sound the same without U2 legacy and influence, just like plenty of other rock bands, Arcade Fire, Metric, Foals, just to name a few.

There is no reason for people to be so irrationally angry at that. So you got a free album. Ignore it or delete it if you don't like it. Jeez...

iirc at the time it was kind of broken and didnt let you delete it. i think people were more mad it automatically downloaded and wasted space on their phone. but yeah there was a bit of an overreaction imo

I never used Apple Music so whenever I pressed play on my phone it would go to the first track of that album every time. Every. Time.

definitely no middle term for U2, for what I see - you either love or hate 'em. nevertheless, intelligent and real criticism won't never find any place in all this dumb hate over them (not their work). I can only pity those who got no clue how amazing, influential and innovative their legacy is. also, achtung baby and zooropa 30th anniversaries deserve a world tour. make it happen!

I think I get what you mean. all this Bono's thing of activism was always somewhat exaggerated and sometimes meaningless and contradictory as well. I love him at stage and I think he's a showman by design, but the whole ''social vigilante shit while being Tim Cook and Bill Gates' best friend'' thing is pretty much boring and sure made many people dislike Bono thinking they would also hate their work. thank God there's still people with brains and some good taste out there.
