If you think about it, Welcome to Hell is waaaaaaaaay ahead of the times. This is probably the heaviest album to be released in 1981.

They had some fuckin' raw sound quality in here, which is not something i always like (depends on the album i guess), but for this one it really works!

I love everything about this album. It's so raw and heavy, great song-writing. Strangely I also find the band's performance sounding tighter on this one compared to "Black Metal". Somehow this sounds more well-rounded in general to me. A legendary album.

Incredibly influential, landmark Heavy Metal album that pushed the boundaries of what could be done in the genre. A lot of people say that all Venom did was give Black Metal its name, but this and the next couple of albums also exerted a massive influence on everything that would become the various forms of Extreme Metal, but it's not just influential -- it also kicks massive amounts of ass in its own right. The whole album was just some demos that the group cut for Neat Records and the label put them out as the record, thus the newest, rawest form of Heavy Metal was born!

I also absolutely love the drum sound throughout this record, particularly on the pummeling "Schizo," which to me sounds like proto-Slayer; Cronos's vocals in particular are evocative of Tom Araya on that one.

It's also waaaaaay ahead of its time. No other band released an album as heavy or heavier than Welcome to Hell in 1981.

yes! There's a reason so many bands point to these guys as an influence. One of the best records, and groups, ever

I think this is actually slightly more iconic to me than Black Metal is. It's a close one regardless.

"I'll take a metal album produced like this over an modern overproduced, clipped and compressed sound anyday. "[2] This. People need to stop smoothing guitar tracks, I want my guitars razor sharp.
