After showing a deeper musical spectrum through her previous single, “Love War,” YENA comes back again in about five months with a Y2K Style with her new single album, “HATE XX,” with the title track “Hate Rodrigo,” featuring YUQI of (G)I-DLE.
“Hate Rodrigo” is the cute-jealousy pop-rock track on which YENA tries to deny her liking for an envious object, but at last, she has no choice but to admit it. The song contains emotions of jealousy and admiration, which are not easy to accept by herself and are expressed confidently in YENA’s way.
Even the title could misunderstand that this is a diss track to the hottest artist of these years, Olivia Rodrigo. But it had been confirmed by YENA even before the song would be released that even though the title said Hate Rodrigo, the lyrics would be about her being jealous of being the star and wanting to be like her, which references are in the music video as well.
