Honestly such a great album, it’s different yes but it’s growth, they certainly didn’t get worse with this

Where are the groovy baselines of Passing by or Throw it all away? Where are the instrumentals like Look up or Red dust? Simple Things gave me something I couldn't find anywhere else - Hello Ghost offers sounds I could get from half the artists in any random record store :(

Yeah... no. Sure, artists are free to "evolve" or whatever. Likewise, fans or consumers are free to approve or disapprove of the product put forth. There are two or three tracks here that might get another play with me. Otherwise, they all made me feel strangely nervous and jumpy. Wholly un-Zero 7 like. All told, I'm glad this was a borrowed listen. I won't be buying my own copy of this one.

I love this album. I find it incredibly strange with all these negative comments .. In my opinion, Zero 7 moved from creating pleasant background music to creating something you have to LISTEN to. Several of the tracks some of you highlight as annoying pop show rather good production skills IMO. I bet many of the artists they are accused of imitating wish they had these songs on their albums - real hit material, not just flat nonsense. It's in the details, guys!

I'm surprised to see all the hate for this record. Perhaps I'm not the "typical" Zero 7 fan (Simple Things was a good album, The Garden was a GREAT album) but I like the direction they take on Yeah Ghost. It may not be as great as some of their previous work but it's still very enjoyable and leaves me looking forward to their next creation.

At first when I listened to this back in '09 I was like, "WTF is this shit?" and now it's 2011 and I decided to give it another listen, and it's really not that bad at all; def grew on me. I'm glad I gave it another chance. [2]

Zero 7 wasn't in the mood to record an album, judging by this one. It's an "opaque" album comparing with the others, yet "When it Falls" is the best in my opinion. *-*

The songs with Eska on vocals are all really great. I'm afraid the rest is quite weak though (especially "Pop Art Blue" - it's like they were trying too hard to make something like When It Falls). I'm not giving up on this album though - maybe it needs some more time to grow on me.

It's very different, yes but Yeah Ghost is a real grower. Just let the songs grow on you, I really wasn't sure the first few listens because it's such a departure from their previous stuff, but the Zero 7'ness really comes through subversively in quite a few tracks and then you can find it flows nicely as an album. If you still can't like it then accept it's an experiment and also the next album probably won't be like this.

What happened to this band.. they have simply lost their magic with this album, that something we long time zero 7 listeners know it's there but not on this one.. even the artwork and all around it just doesn't fit to me to what we've known Zero 7 for.

It's different. I can't really tell if they've gone better or worse artistically, but obviously they took another direction. Well, it didnt have the impact i expected in comparison to their previous work, and it kills me to say that i didnt like it as much either.

Definitely appreciated this so much more after seeing them play these songs live. How awesome can this album get with each subsequent listen?

well, if people don't like change, they're gonna have a problem with parts of this album. I wrote a review [outside link] http://www.frenchysfracas.com/2009/10/20/zero-7-yeah-ghost/

note to people dissing the new album: listen more than once or twice, it'll grow on you. it's not simple things 2.0 but it has some great tracks (mr mcgee, swing, medicine man and the road stand out) which show that they aren't just content with doing the same thing over and over. also props to sam and henry for having the balls to try out some new vocalists rather than just taking the safe road and sticking with sia.
