The second promotional single of blackbear’s pop-punk endeavor, in loving memory, “the idea” tells the story of bear’s partner being in love with what she wants him to be but not who he really is. Despite knowing this, he’s also addicted to the feeling.
While “gfy” may have felt more familiar to fans, “the idea” is a further dive into the sound of the album. On July 6, 2022, blackbear uploaded the official trailer for the vintage-style music video ahead of release.
blackbear confirmed during an AMA for the premiere of the “the idea” music video that January 1, 2019 is the day he “got sober from all street drugs.”
