i heard a theory that the album was destined to be psychedelic pop but her label didn’t allow her to put the more “experimental” tracks out cuz they’re not on par with duas brand this far

This would make sense why the album is A) short as hell and B) the psychedelic pop isn't there

i think the reason why its short is because she always ends up adding tracks/releasing a deluxe version later on she did that w both her previous albums and shes probs gonna do it w this one as well

There wouldn't be enough time to completely change the album direction in the span between Training Season and the release date. Especially with pressing so many vinyl variants. The album release would've been severely delayed if they'd made any drastic changes to the tracklist this late on.

yeah, insiders said the album era was meant to be more red and more the style she promised, but changed it last minute for unknown reasons, training season was also supposed to be the lead and have a massive mv w explosions, but got scrapped bc of the conflict in gaza I think. she rlly could've had a big era but did everything wrong I fear

bc the music isnt the problem, the songs are rlly good, its just the way she executed it

The majority of people complaining about this don't even listen to that type of music in the first place. 🫢

Very good album, but she mislead everyone of how it sounds lol. I think its more sonically blurry than Future Nostalgia.. not complaining but I think she sold it wrong. It seems like an amalgamation of DL1, FN, and this newer slightly darker psychedelic sound. Some of these songs play it very safe, I feel she could have gone further. Regardless some outstanding tracks!!

I actually like this album, but Dua's team fumbled the promotion here. I played the album hoping for a psychedelic-pop-infused trip (as she said for Rolling Stone UK), but instead, RO is nothing like that. Full of bops, of course, but not like Dua was selling it. It's good, but not great like i hoped.

These Walls, Whatcha Doing e Falling Forever me conquistaram de primeira.

she promoted it as a "1970s-era psychedelia" but there's nothing of sorts here. for reference, i think st. vincent's 'daddy's home' draws more from this psychedelic sound than this album. i definitely see she did her homework and really based a lot of this off 70s sound but could have gone harder than that. especially in the concept, which looks nothing like 70s psychedelia. again, 'daddy's home' is better at this too. maybe dua played it safe because she didn't want this not be gp-friendly. still it's a good album and i know it'll definitely grow on me overtime.

i think yall gotta understand that she's a worldwide popstar and wouldn't give us a psych record like melody's echo chamber or any other project kevin has been involved in. i get the disappointment and it was labeled very wrongly during album promotion but it's still a very cute record. gives me major early 00s british pop revival feels.

imo aside from a couple of songs this record suffers from the TikTokification of pop music — no build-up, meant to be heard as snippets or choruses. Every single from this album would benefit from being ~a minute longer (the extended version of "Illusion" could have been the standard version) — they feel super rushed and compact in an unpleasant way.

I liked every Extended version better than original, hoping we’ll get more of them with new singles

the reception to this album has way less to do with the quality and more to do with what people expected. i’ll admit i was confused on my first listen but it really is a no skip bop after bop album if you give it a chance

This album really made me feel right there with her in the recording session, you know? And I LOVED that feeling through out the whole album, especially on Anything For Love. It does sound unfinished but to me that was perfect and i felt like that was the point. That was the moment for me. The whole vibe of the album is really personal and she really did make me feel like we were together vibing in that studio. That is the album for me. It’s really hard to compare it with her previous ones because I do consider them perfect albums as well. This is why I won’t do this to Radical Optimism. On its own, it’s a really great album and I definitely felt that this was her most personal project so far and the risks she took here paid off. Hopefully this project will be given a chance to grow even more with time!

this album is going to be this years "the age of pleasure" by janelle by being labelled as a flop by fanbases but praised/loved by critics for the fun summer vibes and immaculate production🙉
