An unofficial hip-hop/rap sub-genre. It is usually used derogatory to describe modern hip-hop/rap of the 2nd decade of the 21st century and this was started around the mid-2010's and late-2010's. This might date as far back as the mid-late 2000's. During that time period, some hip-hop/rap fans, critics and older artists such as Ice-T noted the decline of hip-hop/rap. Ice-T goes far as saying that hip-hop was killed by Soulja Boy (a possible big influence on "mumble rap"). Artists in "mumble rap" say things that are difficult to decipher due to the way they enunciate and pronounce words they are saying. People think they are mumbling the words they are saying, hence the "mumble rap" tag. Some may not even rhyme at all. Several of these "mumble rap" artists have "Lil" in their name such as Lil Pump and Lil Uzi Vert. The two mentioned have songs where you can easily understand what they are saying, but they are lumped into the unofficial hip-hop/rap sub-genre known as "mumble rap."
