lets face it. the meaning of pop(ular music) is corrupted as a genre/tag by its nature and doesnt provide any additional value. but adding something like progressive as a prefix makes it more and more insane IMHO. no offense, in 1994(?) there was a VW car "pink floyd edition" on the market...thats very popular, right? TL;TR when you make music progressive it cannot be 'pop' any more. JM2C

It just means complex songwriting and arrangements with a pop, mainstream feel in its production. Most progressive and art pop albums aren't popular anyway. the "pop" in its name doesn't mean popular.

maybe it's my lack of english skills, but that sounds exactly the same as i wrote it. so i agree with you, i think... IMO popular (music) simply means getting easy access & becoming mainstream as an aim/result. when you add 'progressive', it becomes an oxymoron. FYI i avoided negatively connoted 'mainstream', but that's 'popular' ;)

Love Akiko! She does amazing prog songs in her own unique style, no matter how much ill-founded hate she gets on this site because of the spammers.

I'm so glad i'm not the only one talking about mew being progressive pop. People look at me like "wtf is progressive pop" but mew is totally progressive pop

Bjork, Mew, The Flaming Lips, Dirty Projectors, The Fiery Furnaces, Supertramp, and The Moody Blues should definitely be listed here.
