ah it's not like im not enjoying the music at all. if i wasn't enjoying it, i'd not be jamming. but i can thoroughly say that 2024 is the year that Stygian Bough broke through with me. i had a faint liking for the record already, but man, the bastard wind might be one of the best tracks ever recorded. so good. also; did you, by any chance, sacrifice a goat or pray to the old ones for me and my wellbeing? because somehow yesterday the company that turned me down because the project they wanted to hire me for didn't get signed off called me to tell me the proj's actually going to start and they still want me to join them. so now there's a pretty good chance i might be switching jobs again in september! so in any case thanks for your goat sacrifce and go listen to the bastard wind

uh thats less a sign of enjoying those genres throughly and more a sign of absolute unpsiredness. anything i put on just fucking bores me to death. i always thought when i was gon be 33 and feel like that maybe thats the time when i finally understand jazz or smth but to no avail. dungeon synth just does the "blubb bubb" thing in the background. raps fine here and there. idk man. everythings odd. i switched jobs in late '23 and the new job's kinda ass, ngl. stuggling with that more than i thought. most of my life is thoroughly enjoyable but 40+ hours a week of feeling like i'm wasting my life starts to show some wear&tear.

Hey there sir (sorry, I'm a little rusty on my cuneiform), nice to meet you as well! I've been doin pretty good recently, how about you? Seems I can easily say you have some quality taste in music, though I'm jealous you're spending so much time on Jazz recently! Anything new or particularly good you've discovered?

AMx93 (28 Sep 2020, 12:05am): "It's definitely far from the worst sounding album, but I've enjoyed hearing the tracks remastered throughout their discog. It's interesting to hear 30 years of production difference, for better or worse ... The Breeding the Spawn remix is particularly good." <= I'm not aware that Suffocation's "Breeding the Spawn" was remixed ... ever! Google does not help. Please explain ...

I see, thanks. I'm well aware of the re-recordings. I'd love to hear the whole album with "homogenous" album sound. I still hope there is a chance to remix the original recordings. Modern post-production can do wonders.

oh yeah my personal journey with those bands was that i first listened to necrot and only recently found my way to vastum, mortuous and acephalix who all share 1 or more members. tbh i love nerding out on metal archives and finding new bands to put on rotation through shared members or finding out that some individual has been in 2 bands i listen to even tho they play different subgenres of metal. and speaking of the matter: have you given stormkeep a listen in a while? youve been on a usbm kick lately so that should be right up your alley and they recently acquired chad from mortuous as their drummer

To be fair here, my time dropping is at least 3 years ago because i started to realize it was just a kittle more of intensity than I needed, which in return made me feel like I wasn't myself. Odd, how that goes, when LSD leads to me accepting myself more and then implicitly leads to me not enjoying the escapism it offered anymore. I never dropped much or regularly either. Maybe 10 trips over the course of 2 years or so. I recently felt like I wanted to try again, maybe when I'm back in the mountains - those were some of my best experiences with the substance.

I've actually made the experience that LSD did help me quite a bit with self-acceptancd struggles that I did carry around for quite a while. I can't wuite phrase it, but the substance gave me a weird perspective to look upon myself and see all the oddities and unlikelihoods that had to come together to form me as I was in that very moment and that itself was enough justification to just be whatever the fuck I am. That experice didn't necessarily "change everything" or so, but it sure kept lingering on and carried me in some of my more doubt-worn moments.

i imported the mp3s into spotify, that way i can listen them on my pc and my phone. i'm crazy like that. my favourite fbz tracks? your favourite rap song, obviously. regular and complex actually is my favourite song by them, followed by YFRS. i'm also big on big shrimp, on palm trees and on bounce. but honestly their shit's just really good all over the place. the tarantino song they made with RZA is baller, and monica is also really good. idk. these guys are just good. wished they actually produced more music instead of taking lsd and looking out of windows.

perfect way to describe torture rack tbh. i also had spun the new ascended dead once before but think i was doing something at the same time so couldnt really put thought into it. matter has been resolved since and its going to need a few more spins but i mainly liked what i heard. will spin rest of your recs in upcoming days but i need to lend an ear to predatory light fast as it is depicted as ”dark, hallucinatory black metal”, sounds exactly what ive been into lately.

in short ive been feeding on anything chaotic, no matter the genre and even better if it trancends them. some examples: concrete winds, anaal nathrakh, qrixkuor, abyssal, thantifaxath, oranssi pazuzu. besides that atmo bm always hits the spot, so: grift, fluisteraars, iskandr, toadeater. and last but not the least, i could crown my aoty of 2023 already (by cheating, was released late nov 2022) cause i just found lykotonon and their ”promethean pathology”. cant even explain it, im obsessing over it and loving it so much. you could nerd out on stuff for hours over this one mesmerizing, weird and fucking mind bending album. and who could blame you for it when you see the driving force behind the band..

judging from your recent charts and our compatibility im pleased to meet another entity who seems to dwell (mostly) in the dark, murky worlds of black and death. any findings you would recommend? the new torture rack seems real good, couldnt really get into the earlier stuff tho.

Hey long time! Yeah I only just recently really listened to it, it's great and I hope they come out with a new album soon! I found the band Sarpanitum recently because it's got Mithras members in it, sounds similar but with a different vibe. If you know who Obsequiae are, that same guy has a new band Majesties which is super good (more melo than black but actually really good), I'd also recommend Deiquisitor's album Downfall of the Apostates (arguably my favorite Danish DM group now), and to spice things up Poison Ruïn are like a lo-fi, dungeon synth post-punk band that have a crusader theme which is awesome!

Nah, no way. That'd be almost 200 plays a day and my average is at 112 - and even that number is inflated by when I still used to listen to rap heavily. I mean I could grind to that number by listening to Touché Amoré and Full of Hell for the rest of the year, but the times where I listened to artists to push Last.FM numbers are several years behind me :D

Hey man, yeah, holy shit that's some great stuff you have listed here. Amazing I've never come across your profile before. I'd have to say my biggest release this year so far is Blood Incantation's Timewave Zero. A dark ambient record from a death metal band. I like my idm stuff and ambient is almost the same. Blood Incantation has just been so good ever since Starspawn. Other than that I would have to mention Hiss from Wormrot, and this is cheating a bit, beacuse it released in December 2021, but Trisagion from Ethereal Shroud is one of the best black metal records I've ever heard... And I'm not that much into black metal anymore. How about you? :)

I know the feeling. This season has been relatively underwhelming so far, especially with last year being so very dense. Undeath was good, don't get me wrong - but other than that I can't come up with anything from Death Metal that struck a nerve. Falls of Rauros was fine in Black Metal but even there my mind blanks. Everything I come up with is actually from late 2021. Harcore's been largely my jam this year, it's been a year of change, of adapting to a new life, of testing my mental and physical limits, of starting new things both in private as well as work context, and I've always felt that Hardcore catches that feeling of "Let's fucking get going" quite well. I'll give you a small list of things that I found this year - not necessarily from this year - that I found to be quite enteraining. Don't know what corners of that genre you enjoy in particular, I'm not super big on Melodic Hardcore (anymore) but other that that you'll find something in there I think.

And now to close it out I'd like to recommend two records to you that are clearly just Thrash Metal but that have reignited my hope that there's more really good Thrash Metal in the future. Those records would be Beyond the Wall of Desolation by High Command and Sacreligious Pain by Lowest Creature.

You might see that I listened to a lot of fucking hardcore this year so far. There's a lot of fun stuff in there, as it tends to be when you return to a genre after a long break, but since you said highlights,:I'd say the top five records you should check out are Dare - Against All Odds // One Step Closer - This Place You Know // Year of the Knife - Internal Incarceration // Obstruktion - Monarchs of Decay // Field of Flames - Constructing A War Against You.

Hey there, I saw you on Madlib's page, and I wanted to make sure you know about some of his other jazz projects. Check out Medicine Show #7: High Jazz and the Yesteday's Universe album, which features a bunch of his jazz aliases. The Last Electro-Acoustic Spaze Jazz & Percussion Ensemble in particular is one of my favorite projects of all time. Sorry if this is old news for you! peace & happy listening

I think it's nice to see tracks I liked more than others when looking at an album or at an artist's page. Other people visiting your page can see what you've liked as well and vice versa, so it's another way to get an idea for people's music taste! Tbh, I don't think I've ever really looked through the list of my loved tracks. They're all bangers obviously lol

Not a ton recently, life's been getting more busy with things kinda going back to normal. Currently checking out Grave Miasma because they just released a new record and plan to go through their catalog. Also looking forward to the upcoming Ghastly release, discovered them through one of their singles and they're cool so far! How about you?

That's awesome! I learned of it from my Design schooling, Aubrey Beardsley was a pretty dope Nouveau artist. I'll admit I actually didn't know who Witchcraft were but I checked out their album with that art and it was great. Will try to get through their discography in the next few weeks!

Never heard 'em; Checking 'em out now. Thanks! Have you heard Hannes Grossmann? He's been the drummer for lots of bands (Necrophagist, Obscura, Alkaloid). He does at least one MA-style track on most albums he's a part of. The Sorcerer is great: youtu.be/wKNWCtmqWd8 ; And Alkaloid's Cthulhu is probably my favorite: youtu.be/sidk6sU5bXs
