I've been meaning to check out Thin Black Duke literally since it came out, finally did because your page reminded me. Sick album.

Hell yeah! It's quite the ride, I still get chills at The Finished Line every time I hear the "Just like you were never there" lyric. I would definitely recommend going backwards in their discography into The Narcotic Story if you liked Thin Black Duke

As I was listening to it, I was thinking there was something different. I couldn't put my finger on what was different and it is the tone. You're right on that.

Thanks! I see you got the new Dying Fetus. I've listened to two songs in their entirety so far and it's really good. I will say I do like Reign Supreme a bit more though.

Ayyy i see you like dolphin core lol. You might want to check out Arca, some one posted his Sheep album in a recent sharethread and its pretty good IMO - lots of weird aquatic soundscapes and spaced out bleat bloops. https://mega.co.nz/#!ENoTkADJ!97WnFUQfwGrWPh653Q5gXVBJs-w6FgNlZE0ef5x3Vlw

I just watched a few of their videos and I noticed that too, that's pretty damn cool. I still remember all the lyrics to a lot of their songs and it feels really good to sing along to a song I haven't heard in years, they sound really good live as well

Mine is probably Ride Into Obsession because it has nearly everything that makes a power metal track so great. I've only listened to At The Edge Of Time recently and rediscovering all the tracks I used to listen to so I'll probably listen to the rest of their discography later today. They're coming around to my city later this year in support of their new album (which I knew nothing about) so hopefully I'll be able to go

Yep, Fantano- and Pitchfork-core, some /mu/core but same difference. Interestingly enough I didn't get into Death Grips because someone on the Internet told me to, I just stumbled across Get Got on Last.fm one unfortunate day. It just felt really weird after a while to listen to all that "experimental" stuff, I felt like I was missing something. I went into a whole "metal sux listen 2 reel musik like run da jewels" mindset, sorta like Stockholm syndrome if you wanna think about it that way. Deafheaven was a nice breath of fresh air after a while, but eventually I cracked and downloaded Mastodon's whole discography after having deleted all the metal from my computer after a while, that felt so good. I realized there was more to metal than "play the guitar and drums really fast and scream into the mic" and that metal is really just as good as any other genre, there's a lot of experimentation and I think it's good to be back. Also metal bands have super sick merch

Good to hear you liked Warp Riders, that's one of my favorite albums at the moment actually. There isn't a song I don't like on it. It feels really good to be getting back into metal, I got very sick of listening to the stuff everyone says I should listen to because the Internet likes it. Yeah, I tend to take Pitchfork's reviews with a grain of salt. The reviewers tend to be very full of themselves and they're sort of in the same vein as Anthony Fantano as in you can never fully follow them because they always go on some incoherent tangent that only they can understand. My friend told me they actually change the number rating on a review to appeal to the indie hipster crowd if it receives enough public backlash - just another reason not to trust them, I suppose.

Honestly I was never too into Slayer, I think the only big 4 bands I cared about were Anthrax and Metallica (I only really like their first 4 albums). I never actually went on /mu/ or Pitchfork either, they were just the bands that all the "cool kids" listened to and iirc Neutral Milk Hotel's ITAOTS was the album that sent me down that rabbit hole. I only really go on Pitchfork to yell about their incompetent staff. I mean, seriously, Jenny Death gets an 8.1 and To Pimp A Butterfly gets a 9.3 or whatever, that made me pretty salty. Which Sword record did you buy? I bought Age of Winters and Warp Riders for crazy cheap on Amazon and I'm really glad I did, they're really good albums. They announced a Europe tour for their upcoming album and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a NA tour

Yeah I'm out (for now, hopefully I don't have to go back again) and to be honest I only opened up my shoutbox cause I thought talking to people would help me feel happier and hopefully it works. If I start feeling shitty again I'll probably close it again. Singing along to power metal is honestly really fun, used to do it with BG and Gamma Ray hahaha. I was never really into the whole "basic" stuff I don't think, but I was one of those kids who listened to the "I don't listen to the big 4 of thrash metal" bands (Overkill, Exodus, Testament, Death Angel) if that makes a difference. I was also all "I have a diverse music taste cause I listen to 7 subgenres of metal" or however that goes. Then I went into some weird indie /mu/-Pitchfork phase half a year or so ago and recently I delved into the "darker" sides of metal (doom, stoner, sludge, etc) and here I am now. Really into Full of Hell and All Pigs Must Die as of recent, good stuff. Also hoping to preorder the new Sword album soon

Well I just got out of the hospital and I feel decently vegetated so it's pretty hard for me to do anything. I actually haven't been listening to music at all because I really haven't felt well physically and mentally, but the music I have been listening to as of recent has been heavier and more weird (or experimental I suppose), powerviolence and hardcore and post-rock/metal and whatnot, also been getting back into bands I used to really like (Sublime, Misfits, etc). Last album I really listened to was Roads To Judah by Deafheaven a while ago because I bought it on vinyl for cheap and my really good friend made me listen to it - can't say I'm not glad. Looking through your charts I see Blind Guardian, used to love them to death a few years ago, brings back soooooo many memories

Listened to XXX - really good album. I agree with you, Danny Brown is not as influential or as important to the genre as everyone says he is (people really revere him on a lot of Internet music communities and forums, it seems) but he definitely takes an interesting spin to hip-hop. What's your favorite Sun Araw album? Mine is probably Heavy Deeds.
