Tim Hecker makes great ambient/drone pieces, if you like Eno's ambient works you should like Hecker. Beautiful soundscapes, often they give a sense of decay, vastness, his work just has an overall sense of dimension and space to it

Yeah, the original Lumpy Gravy was all instrumental. There are rips of the Capitol test pressing which were in circulation long before the Lumpy Money release, although LM obviously has better sound quality. Overall it's a good set, but I think the documentarian aspect (i.e.: let's tell the "full story" of these records) is responsible for it being merely good rather than great, which it easily could have been. The '84 remixes were just bloat, imo.

The '84 remixes have overdubbed drums and bass courtesy of Chad Wackerman and Arthur Barrow respectively. I'm glad these aren't the ones we're stuck with because, as you quite rightly say, they suck. I mean, they're interesting as a curiosity, but like the original mix of You Are What You Is, it's a classic case of "what the fuck were you thinking, 1980s Zappa?!"

it was weird. more cohesive than their previous albums, like they actually tried to write songs, rather than just hit instruments with hammers. kinda reminds me of heccra if youve listened to that. pretty good though and a really tight neat package of pumped up noise rock.

Daphnis et Chloe is widely regarded as his masterpiece. There are several good recordings, Boulez, Munch and Abbado probably the most famous, but my favourite is Monteux. It's a pretty old recording, but there has been a more recent clean up and once your ears are used to the lingering crackle it's just too beautiful.

Well, feel free to ask me if you're looking for any late-romantic/modern stuff, I have a pretty sizeable collection of Mahler, Webern, Ravel, Scriabin and others.
