At face value, The Smiths and Pantera are almost the completely perfect conceptual antithesis of each other... until you take a step back and look at their overall story arcs and realise they're EXACTLY THE SAME BAND. 1) Both bands overshadowed by a loudmouth controversial / occasionally racist lead singer who's lyrics particularly resonated with alienated youth. 2) Both have a guitarist who is basically an untouchable god in their respective fields. 3) Both have incredibly underrated rhythm sections who had the perfect pocket for each song but didn't get enough credit due to the guitar hero worship and controversial singer. 4) Both have incredibly insufferable fans. The key difference here being one band represents the pretentious middle-class snob, while the other represents the loutish working-class yob.

indie? don't get me wrong - this band is okay, but you're very confused if you think this is "indie rock". what exactly do you think "indie rock" is? music that cool hipster cats like? can you describe to me what indie rock sounds like? can't put it into words, can you? that's because indie is a status, not a sound. indie rock is the rock part of indie music, it's short for independent, meaning not owned by a major corporation. - you see, interscope, the major label they signed to is owned by a huge conglomerate called vivendi, who also owns this other company called vivendi environment, which indulges in such fascistic corporatocratic practices as privatizing the earth's water supply (starving some, making the poor a lot poorer, and the rich a lot richer). and everytime you buy a yeah yeah yeahs record (or cd) you're making a lot more money for a corporation that does this everyday. with major labels only giving 10-15% of the royalties to the actual artists who make the actual music

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly. (2/2)

I saw Thom Yorke at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter (1/2)

Post…

So I was walking around in downtown Londen when i saw a guy in a gelato restaurant who looked 100% like Thom Yorke. He was wearing a white shirt and was there with two kids. I instantly thought it must be thm when i saw him. Just to be sure i googled “Thomas Edward Yorke” on my smartphone to compare him with the guy I saw at that gelato place. And I was certain it had to be him. So I walked in and asked the guy politely „excuse me, are you thom yorke“ and to my surprise he said no. He even sounded like Thom. I asked if he is serios and he said yes. I asked if he knew thom yorke and he said yes and that people often think it‘s him. Then i told him how i literally just listened to „give up the ghost“ when i walked buy and how i was so excited to see Thom Yorke and he even repeated „give up the ghost“ when i said it. I thanked the guy and said bye and left. But I am so confident that it was thom I met that i actually think he lied to me so

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers.
