I saw Cory on my bday last year and it was unreal how tight his band was !! To get your own "strat sound" in the 2010/20s is pretty special! Meditation i think is the best guitar song of the last ten years :) Type O are a top favorite of mine, I was heartbroken when Pete passed. I havent really been into iced earth for years, but they had a run from the mid 90s-mid 00s that was pretty great. Shame Jon is such a nut! I liked his side gig with Hansi Kursch quite a bit too. Thankful to have seen all 3 groups!

Yep, big fan of both of those too, Opeth especially. Saw them on the anniversary tour in 2015 where they played Ghost Reveries (my favorite album of theirs) in its entirety plus another set of songs from every album starting from Blackwater Park (The Leper Affinity from that one, great and unexpected pick), including 3 from their then latest Pale Communion. Great show. And about The Final Frontier, that took me a while to get into, loved Starblind (still my favorite in there), The Man Who Would Be King and When the Wild Wind Blows from the start but the rest took me a bit longer to warm up to. I like the album now but still not as much as their other 00s ones. World Coming Down I really like, one of my favorites by TON for sure. Remember listening to it right away when I heard of Steele's passing, seemed fitting. Oh and Pavement are surely one of my very favorite bands, I think I'd recommend starting from either Slanted & Enchanted or Wowee Zowee with them, but every album is great.

Great, Ill play those two soon! And awesome Opeth set, I love Ghost Reveries as well...atonement is one of my favorite songs of theirs and the grand conjouring as well, flawless record! Unpopular opinion but Pale Communion is actually my favorite. I last saw them on the Sorceress tour (same set as their live DVD from red rocks) and it was terrific!! One song per album was the set haha. Opeth 05-19 is my fav. Great Maiden picks from TFF too. I liked book of souls and senjetsu but the first 4 from the 00's I liked more for sure. As for TON, October Rust would be my favorite but I dont dislike a single song the band. Grateful I saw them 5-6x over the years too!! Only seen Opeth twice and Maiden I think 8-9x at this point. I try to get to a good 12-15 shows a year but as I get older I skip a lot if I've seen them a bunch or if I'm not a huge fan. I try to see more groups I've never seen, or its been 15 years since the last time, farewell tours, etc... and then pick and choose the others!

My favorite from the retro prog era Opeth is still Heritage, but I love Pale Communion too. Latest one I still need to get into more, have barely listened to it (it's their only one I don't physically own yet). Haven't been to all that many shows, only a couple bands I've seen more than once, besides Maiden Deep Purple is another one, also the first band I ever saw live. I'd say they're the band who really started my lifelong love of music, so for that I hold them in the highest regard. Best gig I've been to I'll say was Motörhead on the Kiss of Death tour, with Hanoi Rocks opening. Love both of those bands, Motörhead would probably be in my top 5 all time favorites.

Very cool of you to say hey! I see you're a big folk / Viking / pagan metal fan. I too like that stuff quite a bit (I have since the late 90's / early 00's). Hey! I am getting by just fine, got a nice 15-16 shows to hit up this year and 2-3 long over due vacations planned, so can't complain too much :) Hope you're the doing well also, thanks for asking! :D The show was this time last week as I type, and wow...my first time seeing him (he doesn't tour the midwest US very often sadly) and I was beyond blown away. After seeing so many gigs over the years it takes a lot for me to get goosebumps but they sure did it. I loved hearing some of the songs off of his new album, which I love!, then he did all of his last album with Genesis from the "seconds out" live album, which is such a great set of tunes. What's funny is years ago I started playing his full discography and was like "wow, this last 10 years worth of stuff is like...his best writing ever!" Talk about an underrated player, nobody really has his style and he was so different in the 70s. Not a blues based riff rock clone, he has a unique approach and i love his volume swell phrasing!!!!

Wow, that's a lot of shows! It really IS good to be back to live music, is it?? I'll be having Dream Theater + Devin Townsend, Mayhem and Mogwai in four days... and can't really believe this is happening again! Yeah, Steve is something else, what a class act! I see he's playing Supper's Ready and The Musical Box again - those were terrific performances when I saw him. I'm also fond of the band that's with him, Roger King on keyboards is a monster on how he plays Tony Banks' crazy stuff. Happy you've enjoyed it! I just need to give some spins to his new record, didn't really get the mood yet, but he never really disappoints. And I'm fine, thank you! In those weeks I've been writing a lot on my laptop, so this means a lot more music listening than usual, which I really enjoy! :-)

yeah supper's ready was a highlight for sure, and they did the closing section of the musical box only, which was still really cool to hear live. His band you can tell area band, not Steve and his hired hands. You are dead on about Roger's keyboard playing. It really is a shame the Tony Banks went from being such a terrific composer and pianist to what Genesis did later down the line, showcases just how wonderful he really was. I too have been writing and recording like a madman with two of my friends, all kinds of styles, but thats the fun of it! Never ending supply of ideas, riffs, and melodies isn't a band thing hehe :) Next up for me is The Smashing Pumpkins two weeks from today, then seeing Symphony X with Haken two days later! :D

OMG my friend, I have since the early 90s!! 1-10 is my jam, after that the series lost me. I've been replaying 7-10 the last several months (nintendo switch re-release) and its been terrific. I really really enjoyed FF8 this time around. I hadnt played any of these games in 15+ years, so it was really cool to play the stories again at this age, I feel i really understood them well.
Actions
-
Mathias_705
Nice, for me I think I started with the 13 series on the PS3 (I never finished 13, only 13-2 😅). Then I've also played 6, 7, 8 (a little bit), 9, 10, 11 (a little bit). 15 didn't appeal to me either, I guess I wasn't interessed in playing as only 4 guys. But my fav has to be 7, even though it may be a little overhyped nowadays.
Actions
-
FjordSweetFjord
I have nostalgia for the old ones (1-10), I grew up playing FF1, 4, and 6 all the time with friends. We'd replay them on sleepovers time and time again. FF7 was a moment in time for sure, it just set a new standard for gaming in general. FF8 I love to death, its arguably the best written game in the series. FF9 was a conscious throwback to FF6 but modernized (after 7-8 were so different) which was fun for old school fans like myself. FF10 was the last of that old style before it went too far into JRPGs. I had played 7 I'd think 4-5 times in the past, FF8 2-3 times, FF9 twice, and FF10 only once before...so to revisit these four games in my late 30s has been really cool honestly. Rekindled my love for the series and it'll be fun to throw them on again in another 15 years! Maybe my daughter will get into them? :)

Hey thanks! I try to divvy things up quite a bit and in the last 5+ years have branched out quite a lot to other styles. Most of the time I'll pick 2-3 artists at a time and play their full discographies. Anyone in particular you're wanting to get into that you saw? Nice to see a big COF fan! I've always loved them and really enjoy their new direction with this current line up, hope to see them live again soon!
Actions

ShotgunTabasco
Same for me in terms of branching out, especially last year. I am not that good to go through an entire discography of an artist. I am trying a bit right now with Kiss. I tend to stay within a sphere of music and then listen to full albums by a bigger portion of bands. Hmm, tough to answer because some of the artists I've already listened to a lot, but just different albums. One good example is how different our Alice Cooper plays are. :D Ahhh yes, COF is my everything. Absolutely love that band to pieces. I saw their live stream here in May, and it was pretty decent. I could hear that Dani was not in top shape because of such a long break. Their new line up has been somewhat of a renaissance, even though I've enjoyed almost every album from them. I can't wait to listen to their new record. :D
Actions

FjordSweetFjord
Yeah I liked everything COF has done but those last two records did breath some new fire into them which was cool to see. Last time I saw them was 2003, long overdue! For Alice I like his 1970-78 era and then that 86-00 period. The early late 60s, early 80s, and anything after 00 is for me hard to listen to aside from a handful of tunes. I got more into funk, smooth clean town big band rock stuff, and some techno'y stuff that is fun to throw on. A lot of metal just bores me anymore, still some groups like Opeth, Arch Enemy, Blind Guardian, etc... I still love what they put out but a lot of the general just don't click with anymore.

Of corpse! Been a bit since I'd last played it though. They just announced a tour but are not coming too close to me, so hopefully another leg comes up after that. And just binge TON from 91-07 and enjoy it all. October Rust, Life is Killing me, and World Coming Down are my three favorites but I do love them all. I started going to shows in the later part of the 90s, got to catch the last wave of some groups but sometimes wish I had been born five years earlier to see even more hehe.

ShotgunTabasco
I hope you'll catch 'em too! I'm actually going to my record store today to pre-order the new album. :) I am just not good at binging discographies in general, and when albums reach 50 minutes they really need to draw me in. Hahaha, wouldn't we all wish we were born just a bit earlier. ;)

Myself, I started with FF6 and played them all through FF9, and played FF4 and Tactics/Tactics Advance, too. I wish I could someday find the time to play FF10, it would be cool! I would've bought the PS2 just to play that single game, so the series lost me back then...

Tactics was awesome, big fan of that one. FF10 is great, if you like 7,8, & 9 you'll love it. Story and characters were terrific, loved the battle system, music, etc... I only played it once but a buddy of mine wants to plow through it this winter, so ill gladly hop in to help! I think he's starting with 9 though next, he did 8 the other year for the first time. I really want the new FF 7 remake but only have a switch.
