Imma thinking it's another solid slab of death fuckin' metal, mate. I frankly prefer Violence Unimagined over it, but Cannibal Corpse is one of those bands that always deliver, so even in cases where I prefer one album over another, it's only ever quite slightly. How about you?

I immediately thought of you after the TBDM news. You got me to give them a second chance and listen to Everblack after I hadn't been very interested in them before. Crazy times

Sure are, and I'm glad you decided to give 'em another shot, I know he was really appreciative of his fans. But look, truth be told, on top of the years of fandom (which I'm realizing is now more than half of my life-time) , I got to know him bit more in the past few years as more of a peer in a really small vinyl group I'm in, and his passing really hurts in a way that I don't really want to discuss it or really anything related to it yet. So if you don't mind, let's return to this particular topic in a later time. But we haven't talked in a moment anyways, what's going on with you?

Obligatory every 2 year post asking how you like the new single/album. Thoughts? I feel a little underwhelmed by the first song. Not that it's bad, it's just pretty plain and by the book Anaal Nathrakh. Now, I felt Depravity Favours the Bold was one of the weaker songs on TWOTL so time will really tell. I'm just not feeling that level 10 excitement after this single. I still pre ordered though and definitely still pretty excited

Pretty much the opposite for me hahaha. While I agree that it's by the numbers, I love the track and the production amazing, might even be the best of their entire career. I truly haven't felt as excited for a new AN-album since maybe Vanitas. And yeah, I agree and I think that applies generally to singles - they're usually the weakest tracks on each album. I have a very good feeling about this new album. ANKoH was a bit weaker one, and I think this will be one of the better ones in their overall disco.

I asked precisely because of that mobility haha. I think it's fairly generally accepted that Constellation is their finest hour, and I think for many listeners like us TWotL is a pretty obvious number two. But to my own ranking... hmmm, I guess it's: In the Constellation of the Black Widow > The Whole of the Law > Eschaton > Domine Non es Dignus > Vanitas > When Fire Rains Down from the Sky > A New Kind of Horror > The Codex Necro > Passion > Hell is Empty > Desideratum. That said, I don't dislike any of them, just tough consistency to compete with. I just listened to TCN today and the one thing that kinda brings that album down in my ranking is the second half of it, which features some songs that are good, but not amazing, and the fact that it's somewhat samey compared to most of their other stuff. Like I think the best thing about Constellation, for example, is how none of its 10 songs sound alike. It's a varied listening experience.

Eschaton number 3, very interesting. I dont hear that album talked about too much and I admit I seem to pass over it too often. I am more than happy listening to any of their albums but yeah, Constellation and TWotL have that intangible element that just make them superior in every way. Variety in songs, intensity, great individual songs and songwriting and an individual goal in mind. One thing I miss from some of their other 2010s albums is the actual world ending feeling those 2 mentioned albums have, as well as the earlier records for the most part. I'm confident they could make an album to replace my #3, MAYBE even a #2 album. Whatever the case, I'm a happy guy listening to a new album every 2 years even if some of them aren't AOTY material. Now I need to go listen to Eschaton again

I'm sure you've been asked 100 times now but it's a week old. How is it sitting now? Admittedly I haven't been able to listen to it more than 5-10 times so I want to reserve any real judgement. I don't LOVE it the way I did TWOTL right away but I do like it quite a lot and think it is a middle album for them. I do want to stress though that my opinion is based merely on first couple listens and is not concrete.

I work below the computer science department at UCLA, very interesting stuff. I don't know much about it myself, but I recently did some work honoring Dr. Leonard Kleinrock, the man who essentially started the internet in my very building, long before I even existed haha. I certainly have a respect for it. As far as travelling and taking exams, wearing a mask every single place except your own hotel room is odd, and even in the hotel there is a certain level of anxiety that everything was cleaned properly. Taking the exam we were sectioned off into essentially cubicles to not be too close to people

I think it has been blown out of proportion to some extent by the news. I don't know of any single person that has had it, and every single person at work is mandatory tested weekly. So, I'm not sure. I do like social distancing, heh. I think in general people are filthy swine so I like going out in public knowing people are actually washing their hands and can't breathe on you. I'm just along for the ride at this point, firmly planted in the middle of thinking people are going crazy and also enjoying some of the new ways of life. Interesting thing about Kleinrock, I met him last year for the 50th anniversary of the first internet transmission. He had me clean the original IMP and prepare it for the Smithsonian museum. They have the room prepared the exact way it was in the 60s, chalkboard and all

Speaking of AN, do you know anything about this Make Them Die Slowly project? They just posted about it on social media and it's up in Amazon music to listen and buy, not sure if that's a mistake or not seeing as they announced it's a pre-save. Listening now

“The Void.” I tried researching but it would appear Drunk is a part of this project. One person’s comment was “sounds like AN with a different singer. Mick replied with “exactly.”

Agreed, although after 2 listens I'd say it's a fun enough spin. It looks like Amazon took it down, but I did buy it before then

Not interested to get into, especially on a public forum and I don't like to deal in drama. Really wish I'd get to meet Dave though. I've always felt much more kinship with him than with Mick anyway. Last few times I saw AN here, Mick and Drunk were in front of the venue talking to some chicks, but apparently, Dave wasn't feeling social on either occasion and I guess he just hung out in the backstage, so didn't get to meet him. And as far as musician go, he's way more of the kind of person I like and respect - I don't think he is an entertainer in the most traditional sense. He's, in my opinion, much more of a Marilyn Manson-type as in he's the kinda dude that tries to get people to think and not just doing it for the sikkkk vokills, to inflate his own ego or other malarkey. I actually had a chat with him on AN's fb-site after they put out Vanitas (and I commented on them having a quote from a Christian apologist in the booklet), and I felt deeply fascinated by the things he said.

In Dave’s case, I think I surprised him more than anything. I was the first person there and he was only coming out for his ciders. He was cordial, definitely a more quiet guy, and I generally don’t like to be a bother. All things considered he was great. I’ve met a large amount of band members over the years and Dave was one of the best to talk to briefly, among the likes of the Immolation guys, all of Cannibal, Jason Netherton, Trey and Sean from Dying Fetus (John was just really stoned but cool), the Jungle Rot guys, and Derek from Suffocation plus many others I’m sure. So that’s pretty high company I put Dave in as far as my favorites. But hey he wasn’t exactly an extrovert and neither am I, so you getting to chat with him online is probably a more quality conversation than the face to face meet. It’s always very hard to have something to talk about and sometimes it just doesn’t go very well *cough*Behemoth***

Killer charts, if you're in Faith No More, I would recommend glassjaw, Worship & Trubute and the last album Material Control especially.

Thanks, you too! I see you're into Coil, which is a band that has interested me for a long time, but I never got around to checking them out except for a few tracks. So what would you recommend as a starting point for them? It doesn't necessarily have to be the album you consider their best, but perhaps the most accessible one.

Well, that's a pretty incorrect statement, but I get what you mean. No, I don't "love" every single song I've marked as such, sometimes I use it as kind of a marker when I'm listening to new stuff to which songs I favoured from a specific album. I do every now and then do clean-up my loved-list and demote stuff I don't really love. But over the years the list has just expanded into such length that it would be quite an undertaking to go through the entire thing. I dunno, maybe I'll reset the whole thing at some point.

The Codex Necro is their worst album. After it things got better. Constellation and The Whole of the Law are at the top.

For sure, man. I think TWotL is my favourite since Constellation. Really hyped about the upcoming one. Although, I have to admit, they seem to have a bit of a tendency of late to drop a magnificient one, and then not so great one. But what am I complaining, even their worst stuff is incredible hah

I guess. That album also had pretty bad production, which drags it down as a whole listen for me. But I think they do have somewhat of a momentum at the moment, I think TWoTL turned a lot of heads, and I hope they take their time with the next one. Passion was a rush-job, which is why it has so many flaws.

Well, I really liked the White Ward-album and it's my AotY at the moment. It's quite an amalgation of genres, but the amount of jazziness on that album very much pleases me. Other than that, my favourites so far are Venenum - Trance of Death, Dodecahedron - Kwintessens, Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me, Ulver - The Assassination of Julius Cesar and actually, I'm really feeling the new Steven Wilson album at the moment too. There's quite a lot of others, just can't bring them to mind atm.

Mitkä on teikäläisen lempilevytykset/biisit? Kuumottaako seuraava lätyskä jo?
