Nothing too special has happened. But I did climb a big hill behind my house to witness the sunrise from the summit, magical stuff. I have barely listened to anything from 2018 exclusively. One album I am interested to hear is "Ov Lustra" by Sun Speaker, that comes out on the 20th I think.

I understand. I for a very long time, did not explore Summoning outside of Oath Bound. Also I have been keeping a close eye on the intense winter situation in the rest of Europe. I live in Finland and we've had clear skies for almost two weeks and because of it, it has been exceptionally cold here. But regarding the snow situation in Western and Southern Europe, I feel a bit jealous because I think snow is beautiful and while we have an okay amount of it, the insane piles that certain countries have been receiving makes me a bit jealous. I can also relate to the metal and ambient thing, I've been mostly on board with stuff like that as well for the past ~half a year after stopping my subscription to Spotify (since 2010, interrupted it twice for a week at most in the past). Now I've just used foobar with my mp3s and FLACs and the genre plate has shrunk quite noticeably, but I am not complaining. Spotify is a different beast as it is more easy to mish-mash genres with each session.

It is fairly interchangeable with Old Mornings Dawn, so they both come after Let Mortal Heroes... and Oath Bound, as well as Stronghold. Landing roughly in the middle. My scrobbles here probably don't reflect that but numerals =/= feelings anyways. I can understand somewhat, why you wouldn't wanna revisit it. It was the same for me, back when it leaked in late 2017. I listened to it in two parts (on my way to school, and back home) and it was just aight. I was fairly negative towards it, as I hold high standards on the band. However, I later found that much of my negativity was misplaced and it's a perfectly adequate atmospheric piece to study, reading the lyrics along the song and trying to piece together the fantasy landscape that is unique to every Summoning album.

Basically OMD pt. 2, I like it. It's not the best, middle of the road as the records go. But I see the whole discography sitting in a celestial tier of its own, separate from many of its peers. I really like the horns/brass instruments, they are the best part IMO on this record.

Yeah, I learned quite a bit, like you can learn about how offices operate just by being in one, it prepares you for what the bigger ones are going to be like. The work experience is almost always worth it. I actually haven't socialized much in uni, like I know people but its nowhere near like the ideal uni experience you see other people have. Yeah, I get what you mean, I don't like to admit it but I get awfully lonely at times too, it pays to keep yourself busy for this reason alone. I have a few ideas of what I wanna but in the meantime I'm just content to see what opportunities come by, its probably best to take the initiative while you re still young imo, it gets difficult the older you get from what I ve seen. But you re around the same age as me I think so its cool. The discord is still going strong, its a very close knit community now, you should drop by sometime.

I had an IT job last summer, it was alright I guess, tried to get one this summer but it didnt work out. Yeah, I get you, I think university only really works if you have a set goal in mind or some sort of an idea of what you want to do, other than that good grades can just carry you through but then you just get jaded ... I never asked, do you still post in the last fm threads, havent been there in months ...

Its a bunch of legal stuff, really taxing and a big pain, I hope no one ever has to deal with , ah well . Unis been decent, I graduate by the end of next year hopefully. What about you, any career goals in mind, even small ones, to be honest even Im not sure about what Im doing degree wise but its going well so might as well get it over with. Yeah, the new season is a lot like that stuff which is a big plus in my opinion ...

All those bands live, that's awesome. Yeah, I've been busy this summer, got a bunch of stuff all piled up that needs doing which is good cause I usually feel bad when I'm sitting around not doing anything. The new Twin Peaks is great, I'm enjoying it a lot so far, its more like his later films than both the old seasons which I think threw a lot of people off but I dig it .. Im not looking forward to much but they ll probably announce something in the fall, the new Blade Runner looks decent from the trailers . hows that job of yours going, I remember you had one last year ..

I ve been good, currently on summer vacation rn, breakups are rough from what I've heard .. hope everything turns out well on that end . The new Boris is decent but yeah it seems like they re just coasting along but at this point they don't have much left to prove imo , I actually revisited their 2014 one and its a lot better than I remembered. They have that kind of sound nailed down, any thing this year you re looking forward too entertainment wise ...

Yeah, not many interesting people here sadly, The Witch was great, I saw it in theaters and I really dug it, the Revenant was great to watch in theaters but as a film its just decent, that said its really well shot and Tom Hardy was pretty good in it. I love that Black Dog album, that early 90's IDM sound is very nostalgic for me, there's something really optimistic about it compared to most techno. I started collecting DVDs a while back too, last one I bought was Dancer in the Dark ... I might just cave in and buy the Eraserhead Criterion online ..

New courses would be a bunch of advertising ones, entrepreneurship and science and technology. The last two are really great because all the side courses are always more interesting than the main ones, also the people in these classes are often really cool. I didnt know a new Lustmord came out, I really dug Heresy and Stalker ... I ll get right on it

Im good, university opened again but I took a bunch of easy courses because last semester really stressed me out, I havent been here much because I binged a whole bunch of films which didnt leave much time for music ... For films in 2016, Arrival and the Handmaiden were both good, theres still a few I need to catch up on. For Music you probably know more than I do but I dug Autechres El Seq and Demdike Stares "Wonderland" . Yeah I agree, too much downloading is killing music for me, I would rather just spend a lot of time on one record I like ... Good to know you re doing well ...

Thank you, friend. I think that it is very good: not earth-shatteringly good but competes with any extreme music in recent memory. They intentionally tried to make an album that was immediately gratifying and easily digestible, which is slightly uncharacteristic of them, and considering that they're approaching their 50's, the intensity is unreal and really quite impressive. It seems like they weren't trying to create a lingering atmosphere, but rather wanted to smother you--being there and gone with efficiency. If I were to describe its sound, I would say it has the intensity of times of grace with the overtones of given to the rising, but it is very much its own animal. I approve

Nah man I dig long shouts. Sorry for the week late reply, I got tied up with a bunch of stuff. Night shift sounds hard, I cant imagine working that late, I could but its probably different from the real thing. Yeah, Im excited to see the old themes return as well, hopefully I ll have some free time to watch it. I actually saw you on the discord but didnt get a chance to say hi. 4 years is the norm here I think ? Not sure how long it is over there but I heard education overseas is a a lot more difficult than what we have here, we actually have a ton of foreign students at the university, which is cool since you get to hear a whole bunch of different stories.

and i forgot to mention what my favorite modest mouse album is, definitely a tie between LCW and TM&A. love the DIY punk sound and post-hardcore/90s emo influence in the former (also the ridiculous vocals and quiet loud dynamics), but TM&A is an album that i basically know every guitar note of by heart, i could cover that album beginning to end almost. both are really strong albums about loneliness which of course is something that someone who listens to emo all the time is gonna enjoy, LCW just feels angry while M&A is depressing and sparse

this is a long drive is cool and all, same with what i've heard of the early eps and the comp but none of those albums have the band at their peaks (not even the releases between my two favorites from the band). everything following M&A is alright but kinda bland indie rock, a few stellar tracks between (Float On is something i've just finally admitted to be a great "indie" rock track even if it has nothing that i love about the band's late 90s/early early 00s sound). no interest in their new album though, fuck lampshades on fire

make sure you get the flacs as well! it's cool that you know that record so well. most of the records i have that attachment too i don't listen to that much anymore. i think lcw takes the edge slightly for me. the interplay on that record is absolutely on-point for what is an indie rock album at it's core, although the musicianship is really something more. i rarely listen to indie rock anymore but i love going back to lcw and tm&a. i've never actually listened to this is a long drive or any of the compilations. i'm often told that building nothing is their best. i agree that float on is awesome. even if you like you said it is just by the numbers indie rock for the most part it's a nice well-written tune to use to remind myself that i shouldn't always be the cynic. i think i listened to the new album once 30 minutes in i sharply realised that it just wasn't for me. i ended up skipping seeing them when they toured that album cos i really didn't want to sit through the new stuff.

Nah I haven't, interesting read for sure. Dude seems pretty well spoken and I'm kinda surprised that he's a classically trained musician since most of the people involved in ambient music aren't. As for what you said about Centres, it's actually the only record of his I've heard since I've only discovered him recently, but it's a beautiful record and I definitely need to listen to his stuff before that. Which other album of his should I give a shot?

Yeah, Silent Hill from 1 to 4 is great, I have a soft spot for 4 since I played all of then when I was younger and it has some great moments, the second half of it is terrible though. Akira Yamoakas sound design for the series is unparalleled, its amazing how even after the series went downhill he kept composing great tunes. Im studying Commuincations, Advertising specifically, its alright I guess, Its almost half done since its 4 years. Badalamenti has too many great scores to name. I really dig the Mulholland Drive one but the Blue Velvet one is great too, everyone knows the twin peaks one so theres nothing left to say about that but Im glad hes coming back for season 3, its really exciting to see what he comes up with.

I get what you mean, theres something so "pure" and exciting about watching films on Blu Ray for the first time, coincidentally Eraserhead is the one that really got me into film, saw it when I was 12 and it blew my mind. The sound design is so good especially the opening where it sounds like blood rushing to your head, it influenced Silent Hill a lot, noticed you scrobbled Akira Yamoaka. Silent Hill 2 is pretty great and 3s good too. By the way How are things , University started again for me here so been kind of busy.

Yeah, that would be annoying, most of my scrobbles are from mobile since Im outside quite a bit, the downside is that my scrobbles are a bit unbalanced, might be bad internet or the site who knows. I know a bit of the story behind DS2s development, the whole B team thing , shame, I liked the DLC quite a bit, not that great but better than the base game. Last book I read was The Big Sleep, old classic noir, short but a fun read. Tarkovsky remasters sound great, I really should buy more Blu Rays of my favorite films. You buy Blu Rays often ? I try to pick up good DVDs cheap whenever I can.

Not wrong, I dont devote as much time to music as I should. Just more into films I guess. Dark Souls 3 was good, better than 2 at least but this series is getting kind of exhausted to be honest, they should end it. Bloodborne was a step in the right direction. Some more inspired spin offs like that would be good. I ve seen a bunch of his stuff like Gozu and Visitor Q and Ichi the Killer, all twisted. Yeah I recced you a bunch of J horror If I recall you asked for Kafkaesque stuff, you read anything by him.

It really is, paying DS3 made me appreciate BloodBorne a lot more. Whoa, that's a great Secret Santa present. Horror is my favorite genre even though more often that not its terrible, favorites are too many to name but off the top of my head: Alien, The Thing, The Shining, Dead Ringers, Suspiria, Ju on, Noroi, Dr Caligari, A tale of Two Sisters, Possession,Audition, Hour of the Wolf, Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre
