Yes sir, it's pretty thick 'n heavy with 'em around these parts. Every outwardly conservative artist shoutbox is full of unhinged rage. Even aside from politics, I've noticed I stand out somewhat considering I still actually like talking about the artists music, which I seldom see much of anymore. Just a lotta irrelevant shit posting. Generational gap, most likely. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm happy in my little corner of the internet being woefully out of touch. Happy Friday, friend. Hope you're travelling okay.

Thanks for the follow back. It's always great to see someone else here that goes against the grain and couldn't care less about the shit you get thrown at you. To paraphrase the so-called president, "my patience is running thin" with these woke zealots. It's really getting harder to keep to yourself nowadays which is why I started making opinionated shouts this year. Stellar music taste btw. Your top 50 is top notch.

Howdy stranger. Anyone who has avoided brainwashing by the mainstream media is an easy follow back in my book, so I'm pleased to make your acquaintance. Music compatibility I don't give a hoot about as I dig just about everything under the sun anyways so I never struggle finding some good stuff in just about anyone's library. As for yourself, I can see why you like my top 50, we've got heaps of overlap & appear to enjoy the same genres & eras of music. I'll stop by your page again sometime soon & have a deeper dive into your collection & maybe fill a few gaps in my own library or perhaps even have a closer listen to an artist I've overlooked. Hope you enjoyed your Christmas, friend. May the new year see many blessings come your way. All the best.

My Christmas was great and I hope yours was also the same. I'm also the same way with music taste. Even a number of 40 artists will have the odd song or two I enjoy. With that said, I will always be a fan of classic rock. I'm only 27 and I have the whole "The older a song is, the more I relate to it" mindset. Although recently artists like Tom MacDonald, Hi-Rez and Oliver Anthony have proven to be the exception to that rule.

"You both listen to Oliver Anthony Music, Curta'n Wall and Watain." Gotta say, it's pretty epic and quite unexpected to see those three names singled out for that one sentence.

Oh boy, it sure is! I reckon there's a good "walk into a bar" joke about those artists buried in there somewhere. Those last two names though are pure luck - Curta'n Wall I only listened to for the first time maybe within the last week or so & Watain I've been listening to for a long time but only just played a bunch of their songs two days ago. First time I've listened to Watain in maybe a year or two. From what I've noticed, LastFM's compatibility tracker mainly works on recent history, it'd be much more interesting to see what it could come up with using all time stats.

You heard right. Even the bigger bands that come down under, it's really only viable for them as part of a co-headlining deal with another big act, or a huge festival with a shit load of bands on the bill. Smaller bands used to come over by themselves a lot more for select dates before the government flexed their tyrannical muscles about the sniffles.
Actions
-
Guichelheil
So what did they change about the rules & regulations that made it so much harder for the smaller bands?
Actions
-
RiskGrave
You mean aside from not being allowed into the country for a couple of years? The majority of the rules and regulations that effectively closed Australia down have fallen by the wayside as of late last year. Present day, the current problem is mainly financial. Australia has been very pricey to do...well, you name it, for many years now, but since the pandemic we are firmly one of the most expensive countries on the planet and getting worse by the day. By the time you've gotten the band, crew & gear here & booked the venue, paid for accomodation, meals & show to show travel, there's little chance of an underground band even breaking even, let alone making a profit. Unless the band is huge, they're effectively paying to play in Australia. It's not worth it anymore.
Actions

Guichelheil
Ah, that's what you meant by "the sniffles" -- that expression was new to me and I keep forgetting the whole pandemic even happened, so I didn't connect the dots. The last measures were dropped here in the Netherlands more than 1,5 years ago and even those were not invasive at all anymore. And I missed the worst lockdowns we had because I spent most of 2021 in the Norwegian countryside, where covid seemed as distant as Mars. There were literally more moose per km2 than humans out there where I lived. Anyways, it all makes sense now. Brings Christopher's words back to my mind: "It's a damn shame/ What the world's gotten to".

Agreed. And it's not just governments and corporations, society in general will cancel the hell out of anyone for something as little as an unfortunate slip of the tongue that could be misconstrued as offensive to, well, just about anything or anyone. Which band was it you wanted to see here in NL? I consider myself quite lucky when it comes to concerts -- you can see just about anything you want here. (Although even I was surprised to see Lunsford booked in my hometown.)

A bit before midday here. Much obliged. Not sure how my library may seem to folks just stopping by for the first time. Schizophrenic perhaps? Negative on both groups you mentioned but I'll thank you kindly for dropping the names - I'm forever on the hunt for new (well, to my ears at least) bands to try. Thank you, stranger. That compatibility gimmick on LastFM is a funny thing. Seems to only go by recent history - not total library crossover. I've seen a bunch of libraries that were considered "Low" compatibility but upon checking the All Time most played artists, hot damn, you'd think you stumbled across a separated at birth sibling. I love seeing Sinatra sitting so high amongst your most played. A fine library indeed, sir. Glad to have you as one of my neighbours.

Yep, well I'll give anything a go, musically speaking. Interesting library, yourself. I trust you wont mind if I pinch a few artists to try. Nice of you to say. It seems conservative folk are in the minority around these parts. I'd rather not even make mention of my politics but I've had people on here change their tune on me after getting along fine for years just because of my beliefs (which aren't much more extreme than leave me alone & I'll return the favour). So to cut down on wasted social interaction time it necessitates being noted.

Bear with me on that one - I like to give my recommendations a good bit of thought. Gonna have to see what is and isn't in your library first & go from there. Oh heck, nothing to apologise for. If differing politics is a deal breaker for folks than they should point themselves towards the door and get to stepping. I can saddle up with progressive types just fine, so long as the mutual respect is there. Makes no difference to me. I won't however abide by judgemental conduct. Besides, I'm not the most gregarious sort so my feelings won't be hurt too bad by peace & quiet either way. Our ideological trajectory sounds similar at least. I guess you could've called me apolitical growing up. Always considered myself open minded & kind enough. What's considered...or rather, expected, to be the current standard of open mindedness these days though? Well, I have no shame in admitting I fall well short of that & that puts me squarely in the conservative camp. I can live with that.

I appreciate that! Feel free to recommend anything, really. I am not too big of a fan of metal, jazz or hip-hop and my preferred countries are pop, rock, and country. I just looked at your top 20 artists and I've heard of most and I either have them in my library or never really tried them out. You do seem quite open-minded with what you're saying, if you will give anyone a fair chance that doesn't disrespect you. Also, there is nothing wrong with a little peace and quiet, you're right on that. I wonder what was the deciding factor for you to no longer be apolitical? The current standard of openness is to affirm every trend, no matter how absurd and if you don't, you're a "bigot". "Conservative" to me equals "a person that won't sell their morals to fit in", it shows me that you have a backbone. And you are definitely smart enough to know that a man who can barely say a straight sentence and continuously trips and falls does not make the best president ;-)

Many thanks - you just saved me conducting an interview. Was planning to ask you a litany of questions about your current musical preferences but the above info shall suffice! I'll have a recommendation for you after the weekend. The deciding factor in the end of my apolitical leanings...the short & easy answer is modern culture & society jumped the shark. I also didn't like the behaviour of the so called "tolerant" folk - having tantrums & viciously abusing anyone who doesn't agree 100%. It's ugly behaviour & I don't endorse or associate with it. I could rant long & hard on the state of the world today, but I'll spare you my diatribe. We seem very much on the same page with our views anyway, which sure is nice for a change. Like we've made mention of; conservatives seem less inclined to use this site. I'm an OCD stat keeper so I'll stick around regardless. Unless I get banned for wrongthink but we shall see. Happy Friday!

Every generation blames the one before. And all of their frustrations come beating on your door. I know that I'm a prisoner to all my Father held so dear. I know that I'm a hostage to all his hopes and fears. I just wish I could have told him in the living years. Crumpled bits of paper filled with imperfect thoughts. Stilted conversations - I'm afraid that's all we've got. You say you just don't see it. He says it's perfect sense. You just can't get agreement in this present tense. Likewise, my friend! Been too long. Neither am I, the old number just keeps on growing as a by-product of our endless musical curiosity it seems. When time permits, I still read up on the bands as I go. Instead of reading album inserts or liner notes like I did as a kid, I usually wind up on Wikipedia these days & between influences & associated acts, that invites trips down countless rabbit holes & one new artist turns into 5. Next thing you know, after doing that for so many years you can put together a real neat little collection. Very glad to hear you're doing well. The tunes are always rocking & I hope the beer remains plentiful at your abode, something I need to do something about actually! HiYa Kris! i hope this year has been kind to Ya thus far. And look what my #1 most played album for the year is currently==> one of the truly great albums recorded live that hardly anyone has ever heard of: The Ugly Americans in Australia, performed by LA's '80s alternative rockers Wall of Voodoo. Recorded live in Melbourne and Bullhead City, Az. back in 1987, most of the tracks are vibrant with some quirky edges. My favorite track off the album The Heart Never Can Tell is upbeat, kick arse rock 'n roll Please let me know what Ya think... https://www.last.fm/music/Wall+of+Voodoo/_/The+Heart+Never+Can+Tell+-+Live

I liked it. Enjoyed both the beat & the vocal. Couldn't make out many of the lyrics though. The rhythms shifting to a lively rock beat was a surprise(a good thing). While I'm not a diehard fan of autotuned vocals, my stance has softened on that a lot from what it used to be. The rappers I grew up on were Dre, 2Pac, Big L, shit like that. Hard ass beats with house shakin' bass, maybe a little keyboards for colour with a clear, direct flow, but yeah, I digress. You're not chasing an unrealistic dream, you can do the craft & you'll only get better. Work like a bat out of hell on your hooks if you want those bitches on your dick. Ok seriously though, keep at it. A very wise man who made a great living in the music business once said, "To succeed, there are two things you must do; the first thing is don't stop & the second is keep going.". Do that bro & you've got a real shot👊

If I ever saw snow I’d lose my mind. Musically I’m still all over the place, a combination of genre hopping new discoveries then indulging in old favourites. Man, it’s euphoric coming back to artists that are part of your musical DNA. John Mayer, I bought his Room for Squares album not too long after it came out and loved it. Despite being in the almost everything under the sun at your fingertips streaming age, I think I’ve only lightly dabbled in his work outside of that album. He’s on my very long list to explore deeper for sure.

I used to be kinda skeptical because of his breathiness singing, but he got rid of that and his guitar playing is delightful, Continuum, Born and Raised, Paradise Valley, The Search For Everything are top notch albums. Currently listening to Kip Winger's Get Jack. A musical about Jack the Ripper and the five canonical women getting their vengeance by coming up from hell. It's entertaining, both classical and rock. And shows he retains some of the Alice Cooper influence as well. I'm not a musicals kind of person, so for me this is a huge admission. I did watch opera once though (through YouTube). Greetings Kris ~here's hoping that You continue to be in good health and spirits. This past week I discovered Reinaeiry an exceptionally talented young singer-song writer from Singapore whose style is genre busting, but folk-pop might be an appropriate way to describe it. Although her vocal delivery is unique, I believe it also conjures up comparisons with female folk icons that emerged during the folk revival of the 60s such as Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Buffy St Marie, and perhaps most especially Joni Mitchell. Also for someone so young, her lyrics contain pearls of wisdom that speak to every generation.

Eh, it was alright but nothing to write home about lol, too soft. Now I'm listening to Fiona who's a relatively obscure 80s melodic hard rock singer, and she did a duet with Kip Winger, which is pretty much like they took a Winger outtake of sorts and put it in there lol (at least considering the melody of the chorus). The album is on Spotify, all of her 80s discography is. It's a bit like Stevie Nicks singing over 80s guitars at times, I suppose it's not "great" but still kinda fun.

Usually I'm wary of newer bands trying to replicate older sounds but this is pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfY2O4gEywA . Even with their newer vocalist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f6D5qP9WAc (who got support from Swedish hard rock stars for his solo stuff). I thought you might like to give them a listen just to try. They also have a newer album from this year that I have to listen to yet. But so far, it keeps getting better, imo :)

Ah yes, technique is very important haha. And yes, well to be honest this nostalgia trip started with Europe a month ago, it's also when I started scrobbling again, too. I had this account somewhat abandoned, so.

P.S. I don't know Tublatanka but I know Croatians have some good hard rock bands, so I might give them a listen someday

Yes, it's very hard to keep one's voice through the years with a schedule like that and like I said, drinking, smoking, etc. I mean, one can drink responsibly but still alcohol is bad for the voice. Well, I don't hate Hagar, it's just not the same kind of stuff as with Roth. At least I have Tesla to thank for making me want to listen to Aerosmith again after a long while. I'm not crazy about them as I used to be, but I understand why I liked them. Tyler mostly kept his voice despite a lot of smoking and drinking, and a throat surgery in 2006. It's incredible, but apparently he uses some kind of opera technique that puts less strain in the cords. Actually Children of This Time came out before The Trooper did, so it was a bit of Lizzy influence ;)
