It would be great if Nile Rodgers reunited with the original singers of Chic.

It reminds me, style-wise, of Diana Ross' "Working Overtime" which is also very "meh" for me with like 2 or 3 strong songs. Yep those are the two songs I would pick as stand outs. I really just need them to reissue her ENTIRE catalog so I don't have to go on eBay and shell out lots of money for used cds haha cuz I'll do it!

I have that set for Lauro Nyro, but since I own all the other LPs individually, I was hoping to find "Real People" cheaper again single wise. I'm a huge Carly Simon fan, so I loved when Chic did "Why" for her. It was a U.K. Top 10 hit. I have it on one of her collections. Further, Thornton's "I Work For a Livin'" was sampled by my lady Janet Jackson for her hit "Make Me" back in '09.

I was hired a year ago this month to Big Break. I did the essays for Thelma Jones, Andre Cymone (his first two LPs), and Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam w/ Full Force. For Gold Legion, whom I got set-up with this summer, I did the essays for Grace Jones' LPs "Inside Story" & "Bulletproof Heart." The labels do an amazing job, I'm proud & lucky to say I'm a part of their family. :)

Also by least expensive I mean on CD. I enjoy the digital medium to make my music accessible outside of home (working out, car rides, traveling), but at home, barring my dip in to LFM here, I play everything from my massive hard copy collection. I like the music to surround me, versus just filter at me. And computers just don't have the same "umph" a good sound system does.

Well "Donna Summer" is in print digitally, so is "She Works Hard for the Money," the latter being the least expensive of her '80's output between '80-'84. I got really lucky and got a clean copy of "The Wanderer" on CD for $38 back in 2007, it is one of my prized items. But all the other ones I own, I just acquired "Live & More" & "Lady of the Night" last year, both are great.

I have a confession, as I've been waiting to find these albums in my record store hunts, or praying they get reissued, I've only ever heard the singles from these following Donna LPs: "Donna Summer," "She Works Hard for the Money," "Cats Without Claws". I own them on vinyl, but they're the only ones I do not own on compact disc. I'm holding out to hear them on CD on my sound system the right way.

So true! I'll take the video version over the album version anyday. To this day, I still shudder when I think of the nightmares that video used to give me as a child!

You are right! There is a huge amount of music that goes relevently unnoticed because it is all non mainstream. This also includes some former mainstream artists the mainstream left for dead when they matured in terms of their lyrical content, image and overall sound. I have my work cut out for me keeping up with many independent artists and/or artists on smaller labels. I could recommended some to you if you like.

Proof you are not the one person who is adores and appreciates music from previous decades of secular music. I rarely listen the radio anymore because it does not offer much of any music I'm interested in.

From what I've read and heard, I would guess it came from the fact that Joseph though Marlon was the weakest performer and was always telling him to "Do like Michael". I guess it stuck!

Hey! I just watched the video for "Torture". Poor Marlon. He wanted to be Michael sooooo bad. LOL!

Janet is my number two idol, second only to Michael! I have all of Rebbie's music. It's pretty decent. It's nothing really memorable, but for the time you hear it, it's really nice. La Toya's music doesn't really get enough credit. She's not the strongest vocalist, but she does very well with what she has. I think her vocals on the Heart Don't Lie album were pretty great.

Did you ever hear Marlon's solo album? I was incredibly disappointed. Randy had a group for a while and their album is quite stellar, in my opinion.

There was just something about Jermaine's solo music that could never quite get me interested. I love the Victory album as a whole (even though "Be Not Always" is not a favorite of mine by far), but it BEGS for more Michael's voice. Especially "Wait" and "Body".
