Here are some albums I think you should listen to. I tried to pick things I didn't see in your library. It's mostly jazz because you already listen to Exuma, Moondog, Morton Feldman, etc. so I was struggling to come up with non-jazz picks. Shows my limited knowledge. Some are strange, some not so much: Miya Masaoka ~ Compositions/Improvisations Joe Mcphee ~ As Serious As Your Life George Lewis ~ Homage to Charles Parker Various Artists ~ Document - New Music From Russia (The '80s) {this one is 9.5 hours of weird} Billy Bang ~ Rainbow Gladiator Zentralquartet ~ Plie Mamman Sani ~ Unreleased Tapes 1981 - 1984 Johnny Dyani ~ Witchdoctor's Son Roswell Rudd ~ Blue Mongol Charles Mingus ~ Changes One Bix Beiderbecke ~ Vol 1. Singing the Blues Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins Four Tet ~ Rounds Lennie Tristano ~ Abstraction & Improvisation Joseph Jarman ~ Song For George Russell ~ Electronic Sonata for Souls Loved by Nature

Oh my god, this is a treasure trove. I’ve only listened to a few, but I can’t wait to go through the whole list. The Miya Masaoka was mind expanding and Electronic Sonata for Souls Loved by Nature made me leave my body (if you know any more like this, please tell me). I listened to most of the Joe McPhee, too. It’s good, but I’m not really into such sparse jazz. I’m listening to Rainbow Gladiator right now and digging it. I’ve got a few recommendations for you, but they’re kinda just random stabs, not sure if they’ll hit: Ett by Nisse Sandström Group, Mother Earth! Father Sky! by Sainkho and Huun Huur Tu, and Lieder aus dem mongolischen Grasland by Urna Chahartugchi. Please send more recommendations whenever you think of them.

Listened to the albums you recommended. Sainhko & Huun-Huur-Tu, what a combo! I also quite enjoyed the Urna album, great singer. Ett was interesting, a bit abrasive to start but comes together enough. Will check out some more from Nisse. I haven't listened to enough later period George Russell to say what else he did is similar to Electronic Sonata but that'd be where I'd start. Maybe you should try McPhee's Nation Time; that is not sparse. I do have a few other recs for you (and would certainly welcome more from you): Zeng Chengwei ~ Gold Finger Chinese Guqin, Sheila Jordan ~ Portrait of Sheila, Aly Keita ~ Kalo-Yele, and Art Pepper ~ Winter Moon. I'll need to listen to more before I can give any more than that I'd say.

most likely you have already come across this one too but "Midori Takada - Through the Looking Glass", an incredible piece. then also "Biosphere - Departed Glories", this album is a pastoral daydream, a forest lullaby. reminds me of Läuten der Seele with the sound collage of chorals and warm layers of ambient. and one more would be "Tarawangsawelas - Wanci", some indonesian folk, very gentle and full of wonders.

Thank you (I recognize that “unique” is a value-neutral descriptor, but I’m gonna take it as a compliment). I’ve always loved many different types of music, but several years ago I realized that my musical taste was, if not exactly stagnating, at least not expanding very much, and that I had dismissed broad categories of music based on bullshit like negative initial exposure or my idiotic preconceptions about the type of person who listened to certain music. So l started on a directed, intentional effort to expand my musical taste and explore genres and types of music that I had previously dismissed as “not really my thing”. I haven’t stopped since then, it’s basically an addiction at this point. I love the feeling of listening to a song or artist or type of music for the first time and recognizing it as something that I was missing, but no longer, when something feels utterly unexpected and somehow essential at the same time? I find music in a lot of places: online groups, friends, the algorithms are sometimes helpful, but this site has been a great source for me. I like following people on here whose taste overlaps in some way with mine but who also listen to a lot of stuff that I don’t know or haven’t deeply explored, then raiding their libraries. As for recommendations, I’ve got a bit of a recency bias, so I tend to recommend stuff that I’m enamored with at the moment. With that in mind try these: -Rikong - Basing Ensemble - just found this song the other day and I can’t stop playing it -Pov Piti - Matana Roberts - a great song with some of the greatest soul-rending screams I’ve ever heard -Heimat’s self-titled album -And since you recommended Heilung to me, you might like Vartra If you don’t like any of them let me know and I’ll come up with something completely different. Sorry I wrote a whole novel here, I couldn’t think of a short answer.

I appreciate the long answer, so you're a novelty seeker for music? I can kind of relate, there are a lot of artists I used to hate, but have slowly learned to love, some of which are now among my favourites. It is a nice feeling. Thanks for the recs, I'll let you know. Another unique band I think you might like is Natural snow buildings, it's folk mixed with drone, Some of it is more accesible than the rest, but it is all very beautiful. I recommend The dance of the moon and the sun.

Thank you for the recommendation, I immediately love it. I guess Spotify is a bit of a mixed blessing, it’s let me find so much music I wouldn’t have otherwise, but if something isn’t on there, like this album, I can easily overlook it. I’ve got a few more recommendations for you that are somewhat similar: Hala Strana, Hans Reichel, and Matthias Loibner.

I do like that song a lot (although, judging by your charts, not quite as much as you do) it has a dreamy quality that I love. I have a playlist of songs that evoke a similar feeling in me, check it out, you might like some of them https://open.spotify.com/playlist/26sKZsVWiQWUYsH8Q6e9yi?si=JasCrlKqRVm9SbAydMCobw

Gosh, that was such a nice exchange to chance upon - and you do have a terrific library, it's true... And wow, you do like Ruby Johnson... I first found her on the brilliant 'Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures' series - can recommend them if you haven't chanced on them, they're great...

Oh yeah, I love Ruby, her voice just knocks me out, one of the underrated greats of early soul. And those Dave Godin comps are great, aren’t they? I checked out your library and it looks like you’ve got stellar taste, I look forward to going through it to find the stuff I don’t know that I love yet

Chloe, this playlist is amazing. I’ve already listened to the whole thing, so much great stuff, some that I already listen to and love, some that I hadn’t heard and love at first listen. Honestly this is the best gift I’ve been given in recent memory, thank you PS if you’re so inclined to keep adding more to it I would love that
