Likewise! I've been listening to Beach Houses new album and I really like it, now I have to decide which album(s) of theirs I should listen to next, any recommendations? :)

I would recommend listening next to Teen Dream, which was their sophomore record. It's a fan favorite and mine as well. Then go with Bloom, which is was regarded as their finest work. :)

Hello so I have come across a local band down this way that I am obsessed with now and are one of my faves: Tomkat. I saw them live at Oaktopia and was so mad I hadn't seen them before that night because they are SOOO GOOD. If you check them out I hope you enjoy some of their songs. It was a good way to start the show and they are pretty groovy. I listened to Mord Fustang and surprisingly enjoyed their music. Thx for the recommendation!

I'l lcheck out Zero 7. The first time I saw Tomkat was live, so I think that really showed me just how talented they are. Some people are just... terrible live hahahha. I hope I can get to a full show of theirs soon since I'm in their area. Also, you are a godsend because I HAVE been looking for 80s electropop. Like, that exact genre hahahah. I hope it's full of synth because that's what I've been wanting to hear. MIND-READER.

Agree 100%. That's probably why we love Phantogram so much huh, amazing live. I found PHASES some time back and then found out after I had bought Chvrches tickets that they were opening for them... they were also great live! And yes definitely full of funky synths.

They are! Finding artists through the opening acts has been a really fun way for me to discover new artists. It's great seeing bigger names getting behind some artists that don't have as big a place quite yet. It's crazy how many talented musicians there are that don't get the recognition.

For sure on the last part... I probably don't search for new artists as much as I should. It's easy to stick to your favs. With the internet and ease of access in distributing music there is so much out there to sift through, thats probably why I don't bother looking for new music lol. A lot of it is just OK, but definitely hidden gems amongst it all.

I know I didn't search for new artists in the past. I stayed in my comfort zone and stuck to who I knew, but thanks to spotify (and now last.fm) I've been able to get relevant music recommendations. Also just doing playlist swaps with my friends has lead me to a TON of new music. I think I have the problem of being over saturated sometimes. Like these last few days I've barely listened to anything except while driving. So I'll probably go on a 4 hour listening binge soon hahaha. It does take a lot of time and dedication to find new music, though, so I don't really think anything of it when people say they stick with their favorites. That's the point of music, to listen for your enjoyment. Sometimes I just feel my playlist getting too recycled so I venture out for new stuff, but then get frustrated when I don't find anything I like and just go back to my faves lol.

Spotify's weekly recommendations playlist used to be really good but the past year or so its been pretty useless for me. I talk to my friends about music somewhat but my taste is pretty different from theirs (I give them shit for listening to dad rock and they give me shit for listening to pop music). That's probably why I like last.fm, its easy to find people who listen to the same stuff and have done the searching for you. I think I'm getting to the point where I have enough artists I really like that I can be sustained by their new releases. Also, generally, I think my tolerance for listening to the same stuff over and over is higher. Some get sick of listening to the same songs repeatedly.

Really??? That's so strange! They're headlining Oaktopia and it has conveniently moved to Dallas this year, so they're back at the same venue they were last year. This is only the second time I'll be seeing them live. Some other really cool bands are going to be at this festival.

Ah I like when bands go to a venue you're familiar with. I just checked the lineup for Oaktopia and I'm only familiar with a few of the bands, who are you looking forward to seeing besides Phantogram?

I'm going Saturday only, but so far I'm super excited to see Strfkr and Com Truise!!!!! I'm trying to listen to some of the other artists that'll be there since I'm not familiar with many of them. There are a ton of great acts happening Friday but I just can't go that day. I would've loved to see Lil Yachty live hahahha. Have you ever been to festival? This is my first one.

I'll check those out. I used to listen to Mord Fustang, similar name to Com Truise lol. Lil Yachty would've been fun I agree. I've never been to a festival but would love to if the lineup is good. I'm in driving distance of the famed Coachella but have yet to go.

Hahaha I will have to look into Mord Fustang. Sounds pretty fun. You should check out Coachella one day especially if you're close! Despite being close to Dallas there aren't too many big festivals here, I'd have to go down to Austin for ACL one time. I am planning a trip to England to go to the next Glastonbury festival in 2019 bc YOLO. I'm seeing Sleigh Bells in February as well, so I hope between now and then I can just keep going to concerts and have fun traveling after I finish school!

Sounds fun! I'd love to go to England but have to save money for other things. Glastonbury always has an amazing lineup, hope you have a good time!

i don't know how people can listen to the same songs so many times, can you explain how have you listened to "CHVRCHES — Never Ending Circles" for 264 times? maybe because you've been listening for a long time but for me i cant listen that much.

Well since 2015 I've made sure every time I listen to a song it gets scrobbled, and that album has been out for two years so on average I listened to that song once every three days. As you keep scrobbling I think you'll start to see similar numbers. I've seen accounts with 1,000s of scrobbles for one song, which is definitely plausible if they've been on last.fm for a long time. Some accounts I'm sure people are faking their playcounts cause I see them playing the same song or album over and over 24/7. Nice library btw! :)

guess thats fair. or im weird and hate a song if i hear it too many times. i dont know how to say if someone has a nice library so right back at ya pal.

Nah I get what you mean.. the first 10 or so listens of a song are amazing and then the effect slowly wears off and the song just becomes too familiar and not enjoyable anymore. I have found new elements or instruments I didn't notice before in songs I've been listening to for a long time, like Leave a Trace by Chvrches, that completely changes the song, so it gets a second wind of sorts.

Hell yea I love seeing other members of the Phantofam! I saw them live at the end of 2014 after becoming addicted to their live version of Howling at The Moon. They are incredible live and I regret not seeing them recently. Have you seen them live? :)
