You could say that the latter would apply to bands putting a consistent emphasis on the epic qualities given to the music and themes covered, like early Candlemass, Cirith Ungol, DoomSword, to differentiate them from other traditional doom bands like Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Trouble.

The song-writing style is also a little different, to better convey that epic feeling and tends to lean more towards 80's classic heavy/power metal rather than the proto-heavy metal sound of the late 60's/70's

You’re right. The way I’m thinking of it is a band like Saint Vitus taking inspiration from early Black Sabbath having that sense of dread but Candlemass took a more powerful and impactful sound comparable to Dio.

Indeed, won't miss this last chance to catch them live once again. Their last LP was released just today by the way.

Sick variation in the library. Would you say the list of top albums is close to your actual favourite albums?

Same as yourself, I must say. On the all time list yes pretty much, some of them are missing though. The rest is kind of a mixed bag.

Cool. Gonna check out some of those I don't know, like Hantaoma, Endless Skies and Dreamweaver. I have been sleeping on Cirith Ungol too even if I loved the track they had on the Metal Massacre compilation way back

You should definitely check on CU too, the first two albums for heavy/doom metal with progressive linings and the following efforts for a more straight-forward heavy metal sound. I suggest King of the Dead for a first listen

Thanks. It is a pretty oustanding publication indeed. Very good artwork and in-depth conversations that often make fascinating readings.

I get what you mean, I was kind of expecting that. I had more or less the same reaction when first approached, for the same reason, but grew to like it eventually. Anyway, I'm glad you gave the album a try and yet found some interest in it.

Hey, good to hear from you again. Actually, I've been reading about him and the Manson family's involvment in music recently. There is an interesting 4p interview in Bardo methodology #2 worth reading, don't know if it's available online though, maybe on their website. The Lucifer Rising soundtrack certainly caught my attention. I haven't heard it yet but will do it soon.

Actually I won't be able to pick just one album. ATM I'd say it's a close call between the s/t, Secret Treaties and Spectres. Fire of Unknown Origin comes very close, though.

That's cool. I like those two albums a lot too, especially Revölution by Night, which stands out as my favorite BÖC album from the 80's along with FoUO.

Thanks, yours look cool too. Breaker was the first album that I heard from them, so that's why it's special to me. Cheers

Too bad, EM's music sounds even more wicked than Masada... Guess Masada never disappoints live, your friends are right about that.

Oh my, with Mike Patton... I want to see that man before I die. xD What exactly was disappointing on that gig?

Hey, Thank you! Same goes to you. Oh indeed I am, I saw him live with Masada, Marc Ribot, Trevor Dunn and couple of others earlier this month, blew me away, the best gig I've been to so far! What is your favorite Zorn group?
