Yes, Graspop got a better line-up as last year. I skipped that year. I saw The Prodigy last year on a festival near my home, really cool but I miss Flint. I saw Wiegedood twice this year, because they are Belgian they tour a lot in Holland, so they where in a small venue near my town, also pretty dope. But Finland got some amazing bands, for example I never saw Moonsorrow because they pretty much are never here lol. I'm going to Soulcrusher as well, my third year in a row. But I'm not that hyped over the line-up yet. Blackbraid is my main reason of visiting this year, there is another small-venue festival in Netherlands called Samhain, they got a better line-up yet, imo.

I'm really looking forward to go to Graspop this year. Going to see Tool, Limp Bizkit and Emperor finally. But also shows as Judas Priest and A7X there going to be awesome. I don't have any more metalshows planned in the summer, but two hip-hop shows. Travis is one I'm really looking forward too. I hope to have some big shows to plan soon, but I don't think so. I will skip AC/DC in the Netherlands, their time is just over for me. Wby? Do you have any big plans?

yea i get where youre coming from. i'm personally not a big fan of outer heaven, never really clicked with me, but when i rec'd them to you i felt like they might fit. i also never really got into ascended dead, just felt... meh to. i get why people think its sick, but the records of them i listened to never really did anything for me. the vocals just so bland idk, and every song felt like the song before. havent checked out their most recent effort, been pointlessly dwelling in post-rock and dungeon synth. and the great old ones. i enjoy their stuff rn.

Lowest Creature - Witch Supreme // Sulphur Aeon - Seven Crowns and Seven Seals // Midnight Sorcercy - Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle // Faidra - Militant : Penitent : Triumphant // Hazet - Nothing But Blue // Firienholt - White Frost and Elder Blood // Those are the ones that clearly stood out. Maybe I'm overlooking some things, I don't know.

Don't rwally enjoy frozen soul (i just always feel I'd rather listen to bolt thrower) but i wanted to go, creeping death and phobophilic are great support bands, but when they play in the town i live in I'll probably be out visiting Ireland. I'll totally go should i be in town. Regarding this year it feels like a relatively weak year. From the top of my head, i mainly come up with Faidra. I'll send you a proper list when I've sat down at an actual pc looking through my charts. I'm rwally bad at linking albums with years, especially because I'm someone who tends to not listen to albums on release

i've preordered the vinyl, twin mouthed spring was reasonable enough. i think ill like the record well enough, but i wouldn't say ecxited. wolves in the throne room are good, and a really important band in my musical 'journey' but they also have their formular that they largely execute in a good but unspectacular way.

i'm actually excited for the new blood incantation EP, that band was so good live i've started to be a fan of that band. even considered getting merch which goes to say something, i have like 2 or 3 band merch shirts. also really excited about finally getting a chance to see The Ocean play live next week.

Lol I think I literally discovered all of those bands the same way haha. Such a great pocket of bands on the West Coast! And you know, I've listened to Stormkeep's discog a few times, and while I can't knock them for anything specific (I think they have a great sound and cool aesthetic choice), for some reason their sound just hasn't stuck it for me. I'll need to give them another spin though. I think my latest USBM kick has been more focussed on the NY scene. It's just so different from everything else I've heard. Check out the band Spite (not the deathcore band) and Funeral Presence as good examples!

I see you've been listening to the latest Acephalix record recently. At least where I live, they just released a lot of their older records on streaming and I highly recommend their demo Interminable Night. Also if you haven't listened to Vastum, it's like the sister band to Acephalix. I personally think their catalog is a little better as well.

one of those bands that you always knew to be around but never gave them the time they deserved. seen them live 2 times, 3rd time this coming saturday, but always felt "meh". decided to challenge myself to actually listen through their discography before the show and see if i get more out of it when i know the songs better and how their sound has developed.

Hey yeah I'm seeing some great stuff on your charts, plus a lot that I'll be checking out! I feel the same about Torture Rack, their older stuff never quite clicked with me but the new album is awesome, it's like if Witch Vomit and Undeath had a barbaric mutant child haha. Wondering if you've checked out the new Ascended Dead album yet? That's one I've been spinning a lot recently as well (also a band that didn't click until this album). Otherwise on the black metal end I've been super into Negative Plane, Funeral Presence, Predatory Light and Doldrum. Kinda just discovered this lane of USBM and am really digging it! What have you been into recently?

yea i'm super bummed about that show actually because i bought the tickets last year when that still had Taphos in the lineup. then the show had to be moved due to covid and now Taphos had to cancel. I'm currently just sad about that, even though Demilich and Hyperdontia sure aren't bad replacements for Taphos it sucks. I basically don't listen to death metal at all at the moment and I'm just not psyched for that. I'd always be psyched for Taphos.

the most interesting thing about the Blood Incantation gig was how it kind of changed my perspective on Hidden History of the Human Race. I always looked at it as the overly excentric, little brother of Starspawn that never could quite be the uber athlete his big brother was, but the gig changed that, kind of "unlocked" the record for me. Don't get me wrong, I always liked it, but it felt strictly inferior to Starspawn. But now it feels like it's whole own thing. What a fun riff salad.

undeath and necrot are deffo bangers to start with, but don't sleep on the other shit. if you're looking to the US more, maybe check out Mortiferum from Oylmpia who are among the top bands in the grimey, slower doom-death for me. they manage to do that shit without going too gorey and forgetting about the power of the riff. and if you want some really digusting low-end swampy rotting festering reeking smelly shit, check out Cerebral Rot and maybe Fetid (both from seattle)

yea holy shit, i did not see that coming. like, i've seen a shit ton of bands from all over the genre spectrum by now and i didn't expect blood incantation to take the cake in terms of sound. impressive stuff, honestly. the tiny venue they played in certainly helped with keeping the sound solid, but that doesn't change anything about how good that show was.

All in its good time, there's no hurries. As I said, I discover music at a glacial pace, it could take me a month to find the focus to listen to five records someone else recommended to me. And I know the issue with Death Metal, I got into Black Metal through Wolves in the Throne Room and Immortal in... I don't really know, probably 2013 or so. After that I got into all kinds of BM from Iceland to the States, but Death Metal - and not for a lack of trying - just wouldn't klick. I didn't like it, it sounded to stupid, too primitive, too little drama-romantic... until mid-2020, I didn't enjoy any Death Metal at all. And then it all started with Taphos. Actually, when you scroll around the shoutboxes of Taphos and Chthe'ilist you'll find posts of me saying I'm new to Death metal and by now it's probably my most important genre. Stupid Death Metal also made me collect vinyl. Never do that. It's an idiotic hobby.

Here's five records from Death Metal that you might want to listen to: Krypts - Unending Degradation. Finland's currently finest in my mind. One of the members is the guy behind the Black Metal band Devouring Star. Insane riffs paired with stupid amounts of atmosphere and heavyess. Definetly one of my go-to records for Doom Death Metal. Undeath - It's Time... to Rise From the Grave. Riff-fun-fest from the US. Record's from this year, their previous one is equally as fun. This record is about the riffs and about not taking Metal too seriously. Gorey lyrics with lots of fun episodes thoughout the enitre intrumentation. Undergang - Misantropologi - A riffy-laden muddle of doomish, oldschool, sometimes even a little grindy tunes that make you go "oh damn". Undergang are part of the Extremely Rotten Productions label-group coming from Copenhagen (Just like Taphos that I mentioned earlier).

Then let's continue with something from the US, this time some seriously awesome rifffest from Necrot. Their most recent record is an absolute gem of contemporary death metal, mainly running around in the more riffy end of things, having groovy riff progressions all over the place, just a fucking good band and proving they can do it all by moving towards a more doom-oriented sound on the closer of the record that's also the title-giving track: Mortal. Their bassist is a machine, and the band self-releases on the drummer Chad's own label Tankcrimes. They have ties to the Blood Incantation-circle and to the Danish scene. To close it out, no Death Metal list of mine would be complete if I excluded Desolate Endscape by the Danish Phrenelith. Again, part of the Extremely Rotten circle, this is probably my favourite record in the genre right after Come Ethereal Somberness. It's got riffs, it's got doom death elements, and it's got some good amount of disgustingness.

how about this: once lastfm decides to show you on the "listerners you know" chart i'll recommend you five records with some info about the bands, you listen to them whenever you find the time and then you let me know what you think. by the way, the new Vanum record is out and it's... not quite as good as Ageless Fire to be fair, but it's still a fantastic record. deffo worth listening to.

windfaerer deffo looks interesting. i'll check all that stuff out, just give me some time. i'm weird with discovering music, i do it at a glacial pace. sooo.. black metal. most recent discovery i liked a lot so far was Sainte Marie Des Loups - slightly atmospheric black metal from france. i also took a short look over some bands i thought you might like, and here's three bands that, according to last.fm, you haven't checked out: Wayfarer from the US. The drummer is also in Stormkeep and Blood Incantation. It's somewhat atmospheric with a lyrical focus on the 'wild west'. A Romance With Violence was one of my top records in 2021 and it's overall very dense and has a lot of great riffs, buildups and such. Then: Wormwitch. Slighly Black'nRolly Black Metal from Quebec. Heaven that Dwells Within is an insane record, Wolf Hex is a little weaker. Last: Worwood from sweden. if you don't mind a few (well used) cleans in your black metal, the archive is defenitely worth checking out.

Ah, Këkht Aräkh is a weird mix of raw and atmospheric black metal. you could like that. Regarding Death Metal: This genre is so incredibly broad and complicated to pin point, it's hard to give you recommendations into the blind. The one band that I'd freely recommend to anyone who's into rougher music is Taphos from the Extremely Rotten circle from Copenhagen. It has black metal influences, but mostly is built around blisteringly fast drums and stupid thicc riffs. Come Ethereal Somberness is an epochal album for me and it's only a question of time until it's my most played record of all time here. Other than that, answer me this: Do you want riffy fun, do you want grindy death, do you want disgusting, smelly ooze, do you want curshing doomy darkness? because my recommendations are going to look vastly different depending on what your answer is here.
