For some reason, I often find that I'm not very compatible with many people who share a lot in common with me; people who seem like they should be higher than what they are. I believe it happens when you have a lot of artists in your library. There are quite a few artists I haven't heard of/listened to in your library that I'll have to explore!

I agree! Nothing better than a solid listening session. Aww, haha, yeh, my mum and I are both huge fans of M; we go to as many of his gigs as we can right up against the barrier. There is nothing better than that feeling of being so close to him and the atmosphere at the front is always the best as they're Moz nutters like I am who go to lots of his gigs. I go to see a decent number of other bands but none of them can leave me on a high for weeks like his invariably do. We try and do at least 7/8 of his gigs per tour. You're possibly from the same area as me. Have you ever seen M live and do you plan to in future?

I love how you and your Mother are able to enjoy Morrissey together, my Mam unfortunately (lovingly) hates all things Morrissey adjacent but I think she’d go to a Morrissey concert with me. I’m quite new to concert goings/live music (having only went to my first concert around a month ago) so I haven’t seen Morrissey live but have been wanting to for years, but, I’m not too familiar with his touring schedule through the years either.

Yeh, I love being able to share those experiences with her. She enjoys, Chameleons, Cure, M/Johnny and Peter Hook so she is into my favourite artists. I made the mistake of taking her to a post black metal gig last year and she hated it, lol. I think most people now hate Moz, sadly. Oh wow, live gigs are such a thrill. I live for them. I'm getting excited for tonight's gig and sorting out a suitcase to stay overnight. M usually tours regularly here but recently he cancelled everything and we were told he was suffering from physical exhaustion. I'm hoping that he tours and Black Sabbath play their final ever gig soon. It's just a case of awaiting announcements. Hopefully, if he tours this year you'll get to see him!

Ain't that the truth! I am drawn to contrarians and underdogs or those that are criticised for being real and truly just themselves. I haven't had an obsession with any fairly recent artists for decades now, but I have become fixated on Fontaines DC and even Grian Chatten's solo album. I just like their rawness and his lyrics can be pretty poetic. I don't know if you've heard them. If you enjoy post punk you may like them. People refer to them as a cross between The Fall and Joy Division, which is pretty accurate. Hoping I can see them next year in a smallish venue even if I have to travel quite a way. Moz, Fontaines, Liam Gallagher, Alcest, if they your next year. Would also love Faith No More to reschedule their dates from a few years ago. Nine Inch Nails too sometime. I recently took my mum to a shoegaze/black/post metal band and she wore earplugs the whole time. Lol. She kept getting a fright when the blast beat drumming started. Bless her. I felt really bad.

I've heard their Album Skinty Fia. Since I did not give it a serious listen, I have forgotten how they sounded. I might wanna give them another go. When it comes to shoegaze. Modern acts sound nothing like the original ones that came out in the 90s. I only listen to a few new shoegaze bands and same with post punk. New bands don't feel the same.

I listened to it on YouTube and the album version of Spotify, but, as has been the case in the past I seem to struggle with Aztec Camera, for some reason. They seen, in essence, right up my street, though, so it's strange. I don't hate them like I do some artists, but I am not excited by them either. Maybe they require repeated or more intense listening for them to grow on you.

I'm so bad with recommendations, lol. That's why I live this site and have done for years even when it turned into a shittier incarnation of itself a few years ago now. It's great for finding new artists. Through the artists page and through mining other people's libraries. It takes time but it's well worth it. What genres are you into? I am odd in that I am a lover of hard rock/metal (Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Alcest, etc) , post punk and gothic rock (The Cure, Chameleons, Joy Division, Fontaines DC, etc), but also ambient, electronic, anything dark really. I haven't searched your library for these to see whether you know them, but you might like a post punk band called Mølchat Doma from Belarus and Cocteau Twins & The Chameleons are great eighties post punkers that you might already know.

I guess it can be seen from how many bands/artists I have listened to that I have an eclectic approach to music lol. I didn't realise it was that extensive. In terms of Mølchat Doma the songs Коммерсанты and from the album Этажи is a decent starting point. With The Chameleons I would probably say Second Skin from Script of the Bridge and Cocteau Twins is a difficult one because all of their stuff is so beautiful and ethereal. Iceblink Luck is one of my favourites from the Heaven or Las Vegas album. If you like more ambient stuff Bohren & Der Club of Gore are sublime - I'd recommend the track Staub from the album Dolores. I hope you might find something there and if you have anymore now or in the future feel free to drop them here. We can't like every recommendation we are given, but it's awesome to get them and to feel the excitement of checking out something you may not have ever heard. When everything conspires together to make it work it's fantastic!

Oh, and I can see you're a fan of Fontaines DC, and although I am old enough to know better, they are the first new(ish) band I have become obsessed with in many years. I can't remember feeling this way about a band in a long time. They are so fucking exciting. I cannot wait to see them live. That's an essential 2024 gig, for sure. Right, I'll stop typing now, lol.

I love your comments on the Smiths or even Morrissey's shoutbox. So often you are the only voice of reason within there. I find it perplexing that in the age of the internet when one can access an archive of interviews in an instant there is a reason of great decadence to vilify Morrissey. Of course, it all stems from the media's outrageous articles with titles of absolute potency that have no substance within them.

Aww, thank you. Yeh, I'm pretty biased towards M, but I do try to understand people's grievances; I just know that there really isn't anything he can do or say that'll change what he did for me. There really is a conspiracy underway by media and there has been for years, but I don't think he's said anything that should've received the reaction it did, With it starting at the '92 gig in Finsbury Park, Madstock, with him having a union jack on stage, yet when Geri halliwell of the spice girls wore a union jack dress barely anything was said until 20 years later. Hypocrisy at its finest. You're spot on; you only have to read properly and it's pretty clear that they're demonising him because he doesn't court them or fit their ideals.

Just saw this, sorry! Yeah, I agree with your point about the Union Jack, so many artists within that era were pictured with the Union Jack under the premise of "Britpop", and the cool Britannia fad. It is a credit to Morrissey that at his age the media are still actively trying to silence him and his art, it only goes to show that he has something to say and that people are still listening. I was so disappointed to hear that the Bonfire of Teenagers was "postponed", though I think it's fair to say that it will never be released. I just hope that without music the world dies doesn't meet the same fate but I fear it will.

Yeh, I am not that far away from you, it seems. Between Carlisle and Newcastle. I love where I'm from, but because it's a small town you always have to travel to gigs, but they are absolutely worth the hassle. The gig two weeks today will be my first time in Manchester, and although I'm only there for one night I just hope I'm going to love it because a lot of favourite bands come from there, and I can see that I will likely be going fairly often to gigs there. Also, spending 5 says there in December for a Chameleons two nighter and hoping to visit Mark E Smith's mural, Ian Curtis' grave in Macclesfield and a bunch of other things. The week before The Chameleons I have tickets for Johnny Marr with a 30 piece orchestra backing him. Saw him in Middlesbrough a month or so ago and really enjoyed it. Give me a dingy, dodgy, intimate venue than an arena any day. Much love to you too from one M devotee to another!

I don't think I could live in a city. From the outsider's perspective of somebody who has never lived in a city, they seem like quite soulless hellholes where everyone within tries their best to ignore the other person they pass them by in the street - I've never really enjoyed visiting them. It's a very small town to know everyone on the street and occasionally converse with them as you pass them by, to not have that is something that I find to be very suffocating. I would like to visit all the musically significant sites in Manchester, of which there are many! I have no doubts that if you do not already have a photo at the Salford lad's club, you will be venturing outside of Manchester to get one. I would love to see the Ian Cutis mural. I hope you have a great time in Manchester in two weeks, and then all again in December!

I did go through Cocteau's discog earlier this year. Really liked them alot and might end up in heavy rotation this summer. Will check those albums later and don't think I heard of Bohren so thanks for all that. Recs-wise... Stranglers have always been my go to music. Their first 9 albums are all consistently solid for me tho I usually single out Black & White + The Raven era being my top favs. La Folie album seems popular among 80s fans. You might have heard some of their stuff from the old LSC contests

Thanks for the rec - I must get around to listening to them as I have been recommended them many times and for some reason I haven't given the attention they likely deserve. I think I'll try La Folie first then as it might be the best entry point. I'm not sure if I've ever heard anything from them before. I surely must have. Bohren are one my favourite late-night listening bands; there is nothing else like them. I'm hoping to see them live sometime, but a lot of the time they remain only in Germany to tour which is a bummer. I'm praying the weather gets cooler in the UK before The Chameleons gig on Thursday otherwise its going to be roasting in the venue!

Ahh, good to see someone talking sense about him. The more they vilify him the more I adore him. You're spot on; he's only spoken the truth and there certainly isn't anything wrong with that, in my eyes. Why people don't see it as extremely admirable is beyond my comprehension.

Additionally, Marr's guitar is absolutely perfect. The lyricism is gripping, the drums are always appropriate, the use of bass guitar can be surprisingly good, everything works in harmony to create beautiful pieces of art that simple emotions in a complex way. My thoughts about the Cure is that Robert Smith has a very humorous quarrel with Moz. I am not super familiar with the discography, I need to listen to more of the Cure's stuff, but personally, I enjoy it and I am sympathetic to the Goth aesthetic. I much prefer the Smiths, but they are both good. Thank you very much.

I apologise for not responding sooner; I thought I had and then realised I actually hadn't. That's cool. I don't think it matters about your nationality, religion, class etc, as I believe his music transcends those constraints. Yeh, he is nearly 30 years older than I am, so he's not my generation either, but I can relate to him more than any other musician. I think the issue is that as soon as you start to tell the truth and begin espousing realist views you quickly get labelled as racist - that goes for what you said about different places being invaded by immigrants. I get what he means when he says England has been lost; as you said, the culture has definitely been transposed. It's quite sad and M seems to not be able to get past that. He's very much stuck in decades past. I feel I was born in the wrong decade because I have a fondness for the 70s and 80s. 80s = the apex of musical creativity and genius, in my opinion.

It's interesting to hear the views of someone with a different background on immgration & you certainly seem to have a good grasp on reality and actually see what goes on around you. That's quite rare in this day and age. I couldn't agree more about The Smiths being perfection personified. Everything just fell into place. I might be being selfish here, but I wish it had lasted longer. In that short time they managed to create music that is still as valid and relatable today as it was then. I am the same; The Smiths mean much more to me than The Cure. Haha! Yes, they've buried the hatchet over that silly sniping now. M said he didn't mean any of it, lol. I still do find it odd people box him in as a racist fascist yet nearly every one of his current band members is South American. I have a huge collection of Smith's/M stuff & have recently started reading through the books I have on him/them. They just confirm what I already thought about him but they're still eminently readable.

I feel you. I live in a rural area so getting to a gig is an issue for me too. I understand social anxiety too as I can be shy with people I don't know. I do the same thing. I'm hoping to attend a Glasgow gig in October but it depends on the COVID situation as I'm classed as vulnerable. It's all a bit of a nightmare.

Cool library, however I checked to see if you have any 311 scrobbles and you have 0. Not a fan of 311? Haven't gotten around to scrobbling them? Or does 311 in your username have another meaning and it has nothing to do with the band?

Good to have you back :-) ... Yes, time flies fast with the hobbies we like so much... Agree, lastfm has lost important features since CBS bought them a few years ago, and from what I see about >30% or so of the users left :-( But the devs are still working, they have a forum where one can see this. Let's hope one day lastfm gets to where it was once again... We are in "lockdown" and thus enjoying more our hobbies, and there is always something to do in the house and with the kids... Oh, I see. I have noticed that classical music works nicely for such things as reading, but nothing like orchestras etc, just single instrumentals, e.g. violin or piano alone. I assume you tried yet? ... I assume the review work is mentally exhausting? I guess you make breaks after 30 mins or so?

Patchouli dropping this week... if it doesn't leak early, that is. The wait is almost over, though I expect it was probably quite a bit more excruciating for you than it's been for me. Sunset, Piano Nights, and Black Earth were the albums I was most familiar with, but I managed to check out Dolores after lurking your charts and I really enjoyed it, too. Did you get to hear Tief Gesunken yet? What'd you make of it, as a single?
