Heck yeah!! Still going strong on last.fm even though most people I know stopped using it. Side question, what do you think of the new Goats album?

It's good. Not as good at BTC though. I would probably rank it among my least favorite albums by them but that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. It's missing at least one "gut-punchingly emotional" song like previous albums (see: Heel Turn 2, Never Quite Free, etc.) but that could be because the subject matter is different and it's stories told not from the first person perspective. After a few listens I hated it but it's getting better with each listen. Some of the songs are getting stuck in my head -- it's catchy!! -- so it's growing on me.

Hell yeah!!! (weird I didn't get an email that you shouted/the new last.fm sucks) I got his s/t from VMP last month and it's blowing me away. "None But The Rain" has to be one of the greatest folk songs of all time. I can't get over how good that song/album are.

I'll look into it. I checked their bandcamp and liked a few songs. I'm pretty sure that they played a show near me recently because the name sounds familiar. // Right? in retrospect TSOPTC isn't nearly as "hardcore" as Freedom. There's a lot of instrumental/jazz stuff going on inbetween the traditional hardcore parts. Maybe that's why so many people like it, because they can't handle the hardcore parts. Freedom is no Touche Amore where it just goes hard nonstop but it's a solid record. I like it a lot more than I thought I would have!

yessssss!!! Pet Grief sounds so much like New Order at times. I think that and Lesser Matters are more complete albums than the last one.

hell yeah. I'm such a latecomer to them though. I tried getting into them a few months ago, and enjoyed a good amount of their stuff but a lot of their songs are hit or miss IMO. But then I listened to this compilation http://www.last.fm/music/The+Radio+Dept./Passive+Aggressive:+Singles+2002-2010 which has most of their singles and some other stuff. I'm starting to realize what I thought was "miss" is not that.

I don't have soulseek and I couldn't find it anywhere else. It's okay though, I can wait a bit until the leak is more widespread

It's funny because in the book he mentions (or his character in the book) mentions how he really liked the one album with the guy from Deep Purple. Might have to listen to that one just because. Also did the new Blur record leak yet? I saw some people saying it had

I downloaded a torrent before I read the book and deleted everything after Sabotage. I saw that the ones after it weren't that good so I figured I only need those 6 albums.

right?? for some reason I thought they were a boring folk band or something based on the name and album artwork. But that album is crazy good, it's like Springsteen, Dylan and Petty all combined!

yes!! have you heard their album with Harold Budd? it's incredible. Or the collaboration albums Harold and Robin did together? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caHHGZs0Lnc seriously some of the dreamiest ambient music I've ever heard.

I have listened to Whirr! their vocals are very drowned out production-wise where you can't really hear them at all. Also I think that their female singer left the band and now it's just someone else, I haven't heard anything other than their 2012 album, I don't know if that might change their sound. They are notorious for trolling on facebook too, it's kind of hilarious https://www.facebook.com/whirrband

I don't listen to Swervedriver but the few songs I have heard merge grunge with shoegaze and I knew you were a fan. Also the obvious MBV similarities in the ethereal vocals. I just listened to a few newer Deftones stuff and I can see why you'd think that too, glad you like it!

also I don't know if you've heard the band Nothing? I meant to share this a while ago because I think you'd really dig it (pun intended): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9UIdlXhrBQ

it's sooo good! I bought it at a used CD store a few months ago and have been listening to it a lot in my car, but I just uploaded it today so I can listen to it on my computer. I really like the song "Wonder People (I Do Wonder)" I don't know why it wasn't included on the original album.

wow I actually got a "blocked in your country" message from that video, I never get those! I found it elsewhere though, no worries. Totally feeling a New Order-ish vibe, I'll have to check out the LP

"chatting with Dennis on Facebook" haha, what are you and him BFF's? I saw the Refused page post the song and I didn't know what to think because I tried getting into T(I)NC last year but it wasn't my thing. I was not expecting INVSN to be this good, I'm really excited to hear the rest of it too.

holy crap, have you heard this? https://soundcloud.com/invsn/the-promise the lead singer of Refused has a new band where they basically do New Order and it's really great

The Men are a really weird band where they end up imitating a lot of other bands on their records. Not a single song or album really has one cohesive theme, you'll see when you listen. But, I'd get "Leave Home" and "Open Your Heart", those are both pretty great. "New Moon," their album from this year is also really good, but it's less brutal/hardcore than those other two. Their first album "Immaculada" is really, really raw sounding, you might like it, but I have only ever listened to half of it myself.

oh, and before I forget, another punk band I think you'd dig that get pretty garage-y at times: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26psxrhO1hQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VKsjmFD-bk but then do stuff like this too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szV1KVPjPb8 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po7YhYaNdns

also I think you'd really dig Ty Segall, considering how much you like earlier Black Keys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FSTSlyB9sQ I've only heard his 3 albums from last year but I've been meaning to check out more. That one is very raw but this one is a lot cleaner, still very good garage rock! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRHmys84Z34

last year I was so behind on new music that I basically only listened to new stuff in the last two months because I didn't want to miss out on anything before the year was over. So, I'm trying to stay more on top of new releases this year. There's times when I get really into an older artist and listen to nothing but them for a while and then there's times when I only listen to new music, it always changes.

I have Skylarking but I haven't listened to it in so long. I think because his wikipedia page said that he sounds like David Bowie and I thought so as well when I first listened yesterday. Maybe it's the way he inflects his lyrics that cause the similarity idk

no problem! I thought you were a subscriber because I always see you listening to things through the facebook synchronization thing. I don't know how you listen to so many things with ads in them. I can deal with adverts on TV for the most part but not music; ruins the vibe, especially if it's something quieter and then there's a loud obnoxious ad.

Absolutely, this is the same one that's on Spotify, the one that you're listening to atm. I tried listening to it on Spotify as well, but it really sucks if you're not a subscriber. I can't deal with ads in between songs. http://www.mediafire.com/?pcjl5wn0tcdpau5 Cheers!

REALLY GOOD. he has a lot of albums/compilations/etc but I would track down this one: http://www.folkways.si.edu/pete-seeger/if-i-had-a-hammer-songs-of-hope-and-struggle/american-folk-protest/music/album/smithsonian it has the most studio recordings because most of the compilations out there are filled with live recordings. I actually bought it from that website because I wanted it so badly. I can upload it if you want, it's definitely worth listening to.
